SACRED ROCKS NOW OFFERS ART CLASSES IN JEWELRY MAKING, PHOTOGRAPHY, SILK SCARF PAINTING & WRITING

BOULEVARD, Calif. (January 24, 2011) – Sacred Rocks Reserve now offers Saturday art classes in a beautiful high desert setting one hour east of San Diego. Classes include jewelry making, photography, writing and silk scarf painting.

 

“The desert vegetation, amazing rocks and sweeping views make this a great place to hone scenic photography skills,” said photographer David Muenker, instructor of the photographic arts class.

 

Sacred Rocks Reserve has more than 100 scenic acres covered with live oaks, manzanita-chaparral vegetation, and fascinating boulder formations. Join David at his first photography class on Saturday, January 26.

 

Classes offered are as follows:


Scenic Photography with David Muenke
r – Join award-winning photographer David Muenker the last Saturday of every month. The class starts with an orientation to Sacred Rocks Reserve, highlighting specific scenic photography techniques. Participants will have two hours to photograph, followed by open discussion and wrap-up. Class dates are January 29, February 26 and March 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The fee for each class is $30. Reservations are required by Friday noon preceding the Saturday workshops.

Writing with All the Senses Workshop with Rose Muenker -- Tap into your creative writing genius in this 3-hour workshop with award-winning travel writer Rose Muenker. Using Sacred Rocks Reserve’s high desert nature trails, live oak grove and meditative labyrinth as inspiration, participants will learn how to enrich their writing using all their senses. The session starts with an orientation to the grounds, followed by writing instruction, individual writing, BYO lunch, group discussion and wrap up. Class dates are January 29, February 26 and March 26 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Class fee for each class is $30. Reservations are required by Friday noon preceding the Saturday workshops.

 

 

Jewelry making – Learn wireworking and metal forging to make lovely bracelets, necklaces and earrings with award-winning jewelry designer Phyllis Schoenberger on the second Saturday of every month.. Reservations required no later than noon January 14 for purchase of materials. Class dates are February 12, March 12 and April 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Class fee for each class is $30. Material costs average $20. Reservations are required by Friday noon preceding the Saturday workshops.
 

Silk Scarf Painting with Ilene Van Gossen – Learn to use heat-set colors in a simple 4-step process that allows for playing with color and texture but is simple to do. The scarves are approximately 8" x 54" and made of 100% washable habotai silk. Ilene has a BFA in Studio Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute and has exhibited her paintings in several shows and galleries throughout her career. Class dates are February, March 5, and April 2 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Class fee for each class is $55, which includes one silk scarf, use of the silk fabric heat-set paints, and lunch. If time permits, additional scarves will be available for purchase. Bring an apron to protect your clothes from the paints, a bucket or plastic bowl to use as a water container and an iron if you have one to share. Reservations are required by Friday noon preceding the Saturday workshops.

Reservations must be made no later than Friday noon the day before each workshop, at which time the fee will be collected. Mountain homes and RV sites are available for rent for participants who want to spend the weekend.

 

Sacred Rocks Reserve is located at 1331 Shasta Way, Boulevard, CA 91905, about three miles west of Boulevard and just south of Historic Highway 94 in San Diego's East County.
