March 21, 2016 (San Diego) – Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders will be in San Diego for a “Future to Believe in” rally on Tuesday, March 22nd at the San Diego Convention Center.
Doors open at 5 p.m. for the free event. RSVPs and early arrivals are suggested. Sanders has been drawing huge crowds recently, including an estimated 17,000 in Salt Lake City and lines of supporters over two miles long in Michigan.
Sanders has won primaries or caucuses in nine states thus far. He trails Clinton in overall delegates but some predict he could sweep Western states including California, which has the most delegates of any state in the nation, to remain a viable contender.
Running on a populist platform, Vermont Senator Sanders has long been a vocal advocate for economic justice, denouncing the growing income gap between billionaires and ordinary working Americans. He has called for a massive investment in infrastructure projects to put Americans to work, voted against the Bush bail-out of big banks and against the first Gulf War. He supports universal healthcare, free college education, and has laid out his strategies to pay for those proposals largely through increased taxes on the wealthy. He aims to stop corporations from outsourcing jobs overseas. He also co-sponsored a major bill to combat global warming.
For security reasons, do not bring bags and limit what you bring to small, personal items like keys and cell phones if you attend the rally. Weapons, sharp objects, chairs, and signs or banners on sticks will not be allowed through security. Parking is available in garage on-site for a fee. Carpooling is strongly encouraged. The San Diego Trolley has two stops directly in front of the convention center at Harbor Drive/First Avenue and Harbor Drive/Fifth Avenue.
The event will be held in the Convention Center’s Exhibition Halls D and E at 111 West Harbor Drive in San Diego 92101.
