May 18, 2017 (San Diego) — It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it. San Diego developer and ex-newspaper mogul Doug Manchester has been appointed by President Donald Trump to serve as U.S. ambassador to the Bahamas.

The appointment to the sunny islands nation in the Caribbean awaits Senate confirmation.

Manchester, known as “Papa Doug,” is the former publisher/owner of the San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper and current chairman of the Manchester Financial Group, noted for building luxury hotels and for redevelopment of the Navy Broadway complex downtown.

He was also an early supporter of Trump’s presidential campaign, hosting fundraisers in Rancho Santa Fe, Times of San Diego reports.
