July 5, 2011 (San Diego) -- The San Diego Unified School Board voted to ban Styrofoam from all the schools in the district.

The Resolution was submitted to the board by board member Beiser after the idea was presented to him by the 4th grade class of Grandview Elementary

School. The vote of the board was unanimous. The school system currently uses about 15 million trays a year that are sent to the landfill. The Styrofoam trays will be replaced by reusable and biodegradable trays.
