April 9, 2013 (Santee)—The Santee community is organizing a benefit for a Santee family whose kindergarten boy is battling brain cancer.  Diagnosed just this past December, Dylan Pourner has become bed ridden, is on oxygen 100% of his time and is in the process of starting a "research" chemo after the last treatment failed to shrink his very large tumor.

The two largest benefits will be a Coffee Benefit April 16 from  6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and a Concert Benefit April 20 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The "Coffee Benefit" will be held at Coffee Corner cafe at Mast and Carlton in the Pathways Community Church parking lot.  The Concert Benefit will be at the Pathways Community Church.

“We became aware of Dylan through "Project 25", a local program that gets young adults to multiply a small monetary gift given them,” said Christina Gates, organizer of the benefit. “The program is to get kids to understand the value of loving others and putting others needs above their own. Needless to say that through these 60+ kids involved in the program this has now become "project Dylan" and they have great intentions of sticking with this family well after the contest has ended. Schools involved are West Hills, Santana (with Cajon Park Elementary and Hill Creek Elementary piggy backing), Rio Seco elementary and Carlton Hills elementary, where Dylan attended kindergarten before becoming immobile.”

The owner of Coffee Corner has offered to give discounted drinks to all who give a donation.  Dylan’s mom, Jennifer, hopes to bring Dylan to make an appearance, provided he is well enough to leave the house.

Throughout that day, supporters will be bringing awareness to the next event for Dylan. That immediate Saturday will be a free Concert Benefit with live music, minute-to-win-it games for the younger crowd, coffee and dessert, raffles and silent and live auctions.

“We have already had so many local businesses provide items for this evening that we are in coordination with Rob at Al's Sport Shop to create a banner with all the businesses that are helping,” Gates said.

This event is Saturday April 20 from 6:30-9 at the Pathways Community Church main building. Dylan will not be able to attend this but his Mom and "Poppy" will be there.

Gates concluded, “Santee is an amazing city and we hope you will be able to help us bring awareness to this situation.”
