August 16, 2016 (El Cajon) –A San Diego Gas & Electric worker suffered injuries from an electric shock while working on power lines on Shady Lane in El Cajon Monday morning.

SDG&E released a statement which reads, “The SDG&E family is saddened to report that one of our employees has been injured and transported to the hospital. There is no higher priority than the safety of our employees and community and we will fully investigate this incident.”

Stephanie Donovan, spokesperson for Sempra Energy, told ECM on Tuesday, “We all hope that he will recover.”

The company did not provide details on the worker’s condition, however Fox 5 news reports that according to CAL/OSHA, the injuries are “very serious.”

CAL/OSHA indicated the employee was working in a cherry picker bucket to replace a power pole when an arc flash occurred.  Arc flashes are very hot, typically 35,000 degrees Fahrenheit, according to Cal/OSHA.

A witness reported seeing smoke in the bucket as the worker shouted for help, waving his arms and stomping as though trying to douse a fire.

ECM News partner 10 News reports that the worker is being treated at UCSD Medical Center.
