March 5, 2017 (San Diego) - San Diego State had three players earn all-Mountain West accolades from the media that cover the league on a regular basis. Trey Kell landed on the third team, while Dakarai Allen and Zylan Cheatham were vote to the honorable mention list.

This marks the second straight season in which Kell has received third-team recognition from the Mountain West media. The junior completed the conference campaign by averaging team-best figures in scoring (12.8), assists (2.8) and free-throw percentage (.714; min. 75 FTA). Kell also ranked second on the team in steals (19) and third in rebounding (5.3). The San Diego native scored in double figures 12 times and led the Aztecs in either points, rebounds and/or assists 15 times.

Allen is a first-time honoree after posting conference numbers of 9.2 rebounds, 4.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.8 blocked shots and a team-best 1.3 steals. The senior also shot 58.9 percent from the field and connected on 64.7 percent of his two-point field-goal attempts. Allen, who scored in double figures eight times, also received MW Defensive Player of the Year consideration, but was edged by Nevada’s Cameron Oliver.

Cheatham, like Allen, earned his first career all-league honor following a Mountain West effort that saw him produce 7.4 points on 47.7-percent shooting (.720 FT), 6.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.2 steals. The sophomore scored in double figures three times and grabbed at least seven rebounds on eight different occasions.

Every Mountain West market was represented in all-conference voting. In markets where more than one outlet covers a team closely, reporters from competing publications put together a joint ballot.

Voters ranked their top 15 players for first, second and third-team All-MW with their Player of the Year pick receiving 15 points and the last man on the third-team receiving one point.

The Aztecs open Mountain West Championship action on Wednesday, March 8, against UNLV. The No. 6-No. 11 matchup will tip at 4 p.m. PT from Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas and will air on the Mountain West Network.
