December 7, 2016 (San Diego) - A total of 10 San Diego State men’s soccer student-athletes were named to the Pac-12 Conference All-Academic Team, as announced Wednesday by the league office. The 10 all-academic selections represent the most in program history, eclipsing the previous high of nine honorees in 2011.

Dallin Cutler (San Diego, Calif.) was a first-team pick; Greg Norris (Irvine, Calif.), Adam Allmaras (San Diego, Calif.) and Casey Macias (Irvine, Calif.) earned second-team honors, while Kyle Adams (Auckland, New Zealand), Mac Clarke (Puyallup, Wash.), Jeroen Meefout (Houten, Netherlands) Sergio Enriquez (San Diego, Calif.), Pablo Pelaez (San Diego, Calif.) and Thom Van den Berg (Arnhem, Netherlands) received honorable mention.

Wednesday’s awards mark the third consecutive year in which Allmaras and Macias have garnered Pac-12 All-Academic accolades, while the remainder of the Aztec delegation are first-time recipients. In addition, San Diego State’s 10 picks are the second-most in the conference this season.

To be eligible for the Pac-12 All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must maintain an overall grade point average of 3.0 and compete in at least 50 percent of the team’s games during the season.

A philosophy major with a 3.86 GPA, Cutler appeared in 12 matches as a redshirt junior, tying for team-high honors with three assists, including two at Oregon State on Nov. 3. The Rancho Bernardo High alumnus and SDSU midfielder finished with nine shots for the year, which ranked eighth on the squad.

An economics major with a 3.57 GPA, Norris also played 12 contests during his redshirt sophomore campaign in 2016, notching his first career goal against the aforementioned OSU squad, which sent the match into overtime.  The Aztec midfielder finished with eight shots on the year, including three on net.

A mechanical engineering major with a 3.44 GPA, Allmaras earned third-team all-Far West Region honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) at goalkeeper this week after leading the Pac-12 with a 0.63 goals against average, an .856 save percentage and 77 saves in 19 matches.  In addition, the SDSU redshirt junior topped the conference with 11 shutouts, which ranks second on the school’s single-season charts. Earlier this year, Allmaras was selected Pac-12 Player of the Week on two occasions and landed on Top Drawer Soccer’s National Team of the Week on Oct. 4.

A communication major with a 3.38 GPA, Macias contributed to the Aztecs’ stellar defensive play this season, as the Scarlet and Black ranked third nationally in shutout percentage (.610) and 10th in goals against average (.622) during the regular season.  A starter in 17 of 18 matches during his senior year, Macias finished with 13 shots, including two on net. He scored his lone goal of the year in a 1-1 draw vs. No. 12 Stanford at home on Oct. 20, as the Aztecs snapped the Cardinal's five-game winning streak.

San Diego State completed one of its most memorable seasons in 2016, posting a 9-4-6 overall record highlighted by its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2006. The Aztecs finished third in the Pac-12 race with a 4-3-3 mark, recording its first-ever sweep of Washington while taking two from California for the first time since 2009. Not to be outdone, SDSU also registered arguably one of its biggest victories in school history with a 1-0 triumph over No. 1 Akron at home on Sept. 2.
