October 14, 2016 (San Diego) - San Diego State won seven individual swimming events, two relays and both diving competitions on Friday as it posted dual meet victories over UC San Diego (156.60-137.50) and Vanderbilt (168-94) at the Aztec Aquaplex. The wins improved SDSU to 4-0 on the season.

The Aztecs got the meet off on the right foot as they captured first place in the 200 medley relay. The foursome of Alexa Clayfield, Morganne McKennan, Summer Harrison and Alma Thormalm won in a time of 1:44.51.

Freshman McKenna Meyer was then victorious in the 100 freestyle. Her time of 10:10.19 ranks as the eighth-fastest time in program history and was the fourth-best mark at the Aztec Aquaplex.

Meyer, who was one of two double winners in the individual races for SDSU, also took first place in the 200 individual medley in 2:04.15. That time was the 10th-best ever by an SDSU swimmer and also ranks fourth for the Aquaplex.

Sophomore Cailey Steffens also won a pair of races although in each she shared the spotlight with a teammate who turned in an identical time. In the 50 free, Steffens’ mark of 24.05 was matched by Thormalm. In the 100 free, fellow frosh Peyton Wilson’s time of 52.40 allowed her tie Steffens for first place.

Morganne McKennan was victorious in the 100 breaststroke with a mark of 1:04.82, a time that ranks as the ninth-fastest ever at the Aquaplex.

Junior Frida Berggren won the 500 freestyle in 5:01.88. She also picked up a second-place finish in the 200 butterfly in 2:03.13, the 10th-best time ever at SDSU’s home facility.

San Diego State’s other individual winner was freshman Kassidy Henson in the 200 freestyle where she turned in a time of 1:53.85.

San Diego State lone diver competing at the meet, Makena Chamoures, captured first place on the 1-meter springboard with a score of 261.91 and also won the 3-meter board with a mark of 282.30 points.

The Aztecs wrapped up the meet by winning the 400 freestyle relay as the quartet of Thormalm, Megan Gianotti, Wilson and Steffens went 3:28.10. Their time tied for the 10th-fastest at the Aquaplex.

Up next for San Diego State is a trip to Corvallis, Ore., where it will take on Oregon State in a dual meet on Friday, Nov. 4, at 2:00 p.m. (PT).
