Aztecs notch three first place finishes

March 23, 2018 (San Diego) - San Diego State wrapped up the open portion of the 40th annual Aztec Open & Invitational at the Aztrack Sports Deck Friday. SDSU had three first place finishes and eight top-three finishes.
The Aztecs took the first two spots in the 400m dash. Tyra Lea earned first place with a time of 56.19 and Lakin Hatcher grabbed second, coming in at 57.35.
Angela Wilson cruised to a first place finish in the 800m run. Her time of 2:15.92 was more than two seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
Je’Neal Ainsworth was the other Aztec to finish in first on Friday. She cleared 11.77 meters in the triple jump, 0.21 meters ahead of her closest competition.
Asia Smith competed in five events of the heptathlon on Thursday, finishing in second in the 100m hurdles, high jump and shot put and fourth in the long jump and 200m dash. However, Smith did not compete Saturday.
Other top three Aztec finishes included: Jelena McNown in the long jump (2nd; 5.56m), Cassidy Towner (2nd; 9:57.43) Hannah Taylor in the high jump (T3rd; 1.62m) and Jasmine Young in the 400m hurdles (3rd; 1:04.08)
UP NEXT
It’s another busy day at the Aztrack Sports Deck on Saturday. The Invite portion of the meet will take place and a dozen local high schools will also be competing. During the meet’s break at noon, the Aztecs will honor their seniors.
