February 24, 2017 (Alberquerque) - Sophomore Marissa Berry won the pole vault and two other Aztecs broke school records to lead the San Diego State track and field team on the second day of the Mountain West Indoor Championships, hosted by New Mexico, on Friday.

Junior Ashley Henderson broke her own school record in both the 60- and 200-meter dash, and senior Micha Auzenne set the Mountain West Championships mark and tied her school record in the 60-meter hurdles, as both athletes advanced to Saturday’s finals in the events.

Berry recorded a 13-foot, 9.25-inch mark in the pole vault, a personal best. The mark, which is the sixth best in SDSU history and fifth best MW Indoor Championships history, tied junior Bonnie Draxler’s height in the event at the 2016 MW Championships. The Aztecs have now won 22 MW titles in the pole vault out of a possible 35 tries (indoor and outdoor).

“It feels amazing,” Berry said. “It felt good to finally put it all together and make it happen.”

Auzenne ran the meet’s best time in the 60-meter hurdles to qualify for the event final on Saturday with her 8.11 time. Senior Madison Gipson finished 10th in the event (8.72).

Henderson’s 7.26 time in the 60 was .05 second faster than the previous SDSU record set by Auzenne at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational earlier this month. Finishing third in the preliminaries, Henderson was one of three Aztecs to move on to the 60-meter dash finals, including Auzenne (7.35) and senior Starlynn Singleton (7.47).

Henderson also led the way in the 200. She eclipsed her own San Diego State record with her meet-best 23.24 time. She will be joined by junior Simone Glenn (24.19) and junior transfer Rochene Smith (24.29) in the final on Saturday. Sophomores Lisa-Anne Barrow (24.75) and Lakin Hatcher (25.33) finished 11th and 12th, respectively.

Two Aztecs qualified for the 400-meter finals tomorrow, led by senior Tyra Lea’s fourth-place 55.18 time. Freshman Andrenette Knight ran the race in 55.43 to finish sixth and move on to the final. Glenn (9th, 55.98), Monique McPherson (10th, 56.06), Gipson (14th, 56.97) and Lakin Hatcher (17th, 57.12) also competed in the 400.

Saturday kicks off with the shot put at 10 a.m., and the next event will be the triple jump at 11:30 a.m. The finals of the 60 hurdles, 400, 60-meter dash, 800 and 200 will occur is 20-minute increments, starting with the 60-meter hurdles at 12:30 p.m. SDSU closes the meet with the 4x400-meter relay at 2:45 p.m. The awards ceremony will immediately follow completion of the events.
