March 7, 2017 (Fairfax, Calif.) - Buoyed by four top-15 individual placements, the San Diego State women's golf team captured its second tournament crown of the season Tuesday at the Meadow Club Intercollegiate after shooting a collective even-par 288 during the final round at the historic par-72, 6,167-yard Meadow Club.

The Aztecs entered the day with a slim one-shot advantage over Brigham Young, but came through with the lowest team score of the final round for a 54-hole total of 6-over 870 to finish four strokes ahead of the runner-up Cougars, who recorded a 291 to complete the tournament at 10-over 874. In addition, Illinois (+17) and California (+18) each logged a 291 as well on Tuesday, landing in the third and fourth positions, respectively, while Michigan (+24) rounded out the top five.

With its championship, the Scarlet and Black has now claimed two event titles in the same season in each of the last three years.

For the third straight outing and fourth time this season, Sirene Blair was SDSU’s No. 1 golfer, tying for fourth at 1-under 215 after firing a final-round 69.  The Aztec senior led the team with five birdies, including back-to-back drains at No. 17 and No. 18, with the latter ranking as the second-toughest hole on Tuesday. With her effort, Blair climbed two places on the individual leaderboard for her third top-five placement of the year and 11th for her career.

Junior Georgia Lacey also displayed upward mobility during the final round, vaulting seven spots into a tie for ninth at 2-over 218 after notching a 70. The Torrey Pines High product sank three of her four birdies on the back nine, including a pair of conversions at No. 17 and 18, before ending the day with two pars. With her total, Lacey completed her second-highest placement of the year and fifth career top-10 performance.

Conversely, senior Natalie Vivaldi lost ground on the leaders Tuesday, tumbling six places into a tie for 12th at 4-over 220 on the heels of a final-round 74. Despite recording just one birdie at the par-4, 357-yard No. 3, which ranked as the fifth-most difficult hole of the week, the Rancho Buena Vista High alumna still managed to offset three bogeys with a team-high 14 pars, including seven straight to finish her round.

Junior Haleigh Krause also contributed to the Aztecs’ winning total after shooting a 75 on Tuesday. The Eugene, Ore., product was able to ease the sting of five bogeys with a trio of birdies, including a successful make on the par-4, 348-yard No. 10, which ranked as the second-toughest hole of the tournament. With her round, Krause landed in a tie for 27th at 9-over 225.

Rounding out the SDSU delegation was freshman Fernanda Escauriza, who slipped nine spots into a tie for 15th at 6-over 222 following a final-round 76. Despite the drop, the Asuncion, Paraguay, native still finished with her highest standing in three appearances for the Scarlet and Black since joining the squad in January. Escauriza’s day was highlighted by a pair of birdies, including an impressive drain on the par-4, 383-yard No. 6, which ranked as the third-most difficult hole for the week.

San Jose State’s My Leander claimed medalist honors at 5-under 211 after posting a 69 on Tuesday, while BYU’s Kendra Dalton and Illinois’ Siyun Liu finished three shots in a tie for second at 214, followed by the Aztecs’ Blair and another Illinois competitor, Chayanid Prapassarangkul.

San Diego State will take a short break from competition before returning for its lone home tournament of the season, the SDSU March Mayhem match-play event, slated for March 20-22 at the Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.
