February 1, 2017 (San Diego) - San Diego State junior catcher Jenavee Peres (Garden Grove, Calif.) has been named to the 2017 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Watch List, USA Softball announced Wednesday. Peres is one of 50 players on the preseason list.

Last year, Peres batted .451 (32-for-71) with nine home runs, 23 RBIs, 26 runs in just 27 games, missing 25 of the Aztecs’ 52 games with various injuries (concussion, sprained ankle and fractured fibula) throughout the season. Peres’ batting average (.451), slugging percentage (.915) and on-base percentage (.535) all would have been school records had she enough at-bats (100) to qualify.

Despite missing the 25 games, Peres led the team in batting average (.451), slugging percentage (.915), on-base percentage (.535) and home runs (9), and was third in stolen bases (6). Additionally, Peres was a member of the 2016 USA Softball Women’s National Team Selection Camp and also played on the 2015 USA Softball Junior Women’s National Team.

Peres is one of just four catchers on the preseason list.

The Aztecs kick off the 2017 campaign from Feb. 10-12 at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament with three games at UCLA in Los Angeles (South Dakota and UCLA on Feb. 10, Weber State on Feb. 12) and two games in Long Beach (Feb. 11 vs. Notre Dame and Long Beach State).
