February 15, 2013 (Valley Center)-- Sheriff's Deputies went door to door in Valley Center this morning to inform the community about a former Sexually Violent Predator (SVP) now living in their neighborhood. Mark William PLISKA reported to the Valley Center Sheriff's Substation on February 6th. He is now living at 15236 Woods Valley Road #41, Valley Center.

Deputies and members of the SAFE or Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Task Force notified 110 homes within a half-mile radius of Pliska's mobile home. Deputies also notified the principals of Valley Center Elementary and Valley Center Middle Schools, which were closest to Pliska's residence. Pliska relocated to Valley Center from Escondido. He is current with his registration and a county probation officer will monitor his compliance.

Pliska was convicted of sexually assaulting teenage boys in 1983. He was arrested again in 1998 for exposing himself to children. He was released from Atascadero State Hospital in 2006. Pliska is free to live and go anywhere. He is not required to wear a GPS tracking device.

There are currently 15 sex offenders living in the 92082 (Valley Center) zip code. To learn more about sex offenders in San Diego County, visit the Megan's Law website http://goo.gl/3iVEV

Pliska is not wanted by the Sheriff's Department at this time. California Penal Code Section 290, also known as “Megan’s Law,” permits law enforcement agencies to warn the community about sex offenders who frequent the area. The purpose of this notice is to allow members of the public to protect themselves and/or their children from sex offenders.

The Sheriff indicates notification is not intended to induce fear; rather because the Sheriff’s office believes that an informed community is a safer community. Use of this information to threaten, intimidate, or harass the subject or any other person will not be tolerated and may result in prosecution.

The SAFE Task Force is composed of various agencies in the County of San Diego including state, local and federal agencies. They all believe that an informed community is a safe community. For more information about SAFE, visit http://www.sdsafe.org/.
