SHOOTINGS ON I-8 NEAR 70TH STREET: TWO VICTIMS INJURED

January 11, 2016 (La Mesa) — Two women, ages 29 and 31, from El Cajon suffered life-threatening injuries in a freeway shooting that occurred shortly after midnight on I-8 east near 70th Street on the boundary of La Mesa and San Diego.   

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Pearlman, the victims were in the backseat of a 2003 Cadillac Escalade traveling eastbound in the fourth lane when an unknown vehicle pulled up alongside them in the fifth lane and opened fire.  At least 12 rounds were discharged by one or more occupants.

The two women were both passengers, one in the front seat and one in the back seat.  A man, 38, from El Cajon was driving the Cadillac that was struck.

Both female passengers were transported via ground ambulance to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego with life threatening injuries. 

The freeway was temporarily shut down while looking for further evidence.  The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information please contact the CHP El Cajon Area Office at (619) 401-2000.
