March 12 - 2016 (El Cajon) -- Let the races (and games) begin!

With the proverbial “luck of the Irish,” rain held off for this fantastic annual event and a glorious day ensued. The sky was partly cloudy, the temperature cool, creating a near perfect morn for the many runners and walkers alike.

This was certainly a far cry from Friday’s blustery storm which brought high winds and copious amounts of rain (‘liquid gold’) to El Cajon.

Hundreds of happy yet serious marathon participants began their day heading east towards the rising sun which broke through the clouds to light the way, casting its warm rays down upon everyone like a beacon of hope.

Ages ranged from seniors to toddlers and all appeared to be wrapped up in the joy of this event, just savoring the moment. Camaraderie was quite evident amongst these ‘clan’ members which was evident in their smiles.

The adult Tribes & Clans competition was fierce! Women and men alike were lifting heavy weights as muscles rippled in a Squat Snatch and Power Snatch over and over again. Combined with many repetitions of Box Jumps and Burpees, the timed workouts were intense and obviously fatiguing!

As usual, a large "beer garden" was available to the over 21 crowd to quench their thirst with tasty local craft brew.

Also on the menu were foods from a couple of "gourmet" food trucks and other food vendors offering delicious items to satisfy one’s taste buds. Burger and a beer, anyone?

Adding some flair to the entertainment venue was a lively band playing Celtic music, of course, and a couple of talented dancers tapping their way around in time to the music. Very cool indeed.

I must say that this year’s event was very nice and it was a pleasure to attend. Everyone was in good spirits, and the feeling was contagious! If you weren’t able to attend, you missed out on a good time. Well, there’s always next year…
