January 1, 2013 (San Diego's East County) -- Ho ho! So that sweater from Grandma is two sizes too small, or the video game you got isn’t working at all.

If you have gifts to return, be aware that some stores have moved up deadlines to return holiday gifts this year according to a survey by www.ConsumerWorld.com

Toys R US shortened their time period for returns from 60 days to 30 days.  Best Buy’s deadline is January 15 – and you’ll  have to show a photo ID to protect the store against fraud.

Next year, you may want to consider doing your holiday shopping at stores with more lenient return policies.  Kohl’s, Macy’s and Nordstrom have no deadlines on most holiday returns, for example.

Costco has no deadline on most returned gifts, though there is a 90-day limit on a few items such as TVs, computers, cameras and cell phones.

Amazon.com now requires documentation to return jewelry.—otherwise you’ll be stuck “regifting” jewelry gifts that you don’t wish to keep.
