December 22, 2010 (San Diego) – More than 8,000 people in San Diego County are without power this morning due to storm damage, including inland communities in Crest, Ramona and Poway as well as a large outage in Oceanside and other scattered outages.

Funnel clouds and tornadoes are possible today, the National Weather Service warns, and residents are advised to closely monitor news reports and use caution.

The Coaster train through Oceanside has been disrupted, along with bus service on the Breeze line. The bus transit center in Fashion Valley is also closed due to flooding.  Sea World announced a shut-down for the day as well. Gale force warnings remain in effect along the coast, with a flood warning for the San Diego River and flash flooding likely in low-lying areas and burned areas. Numerous mud and rock slides occurred during the night, obstructing roads. In some cases, boulders as large as vehicles were reported.

Traffic on freeways this morning was reportedly light, with many San Diego County residents apparently opting to stay home due to weather as well as some starting time off for the holidays. For the latest on road conditions and road closures, see http://cad.chp.ca.gov/.
