School officials conduct a ribbon-cutting ceremony to honor the completion of the new pool

April 21, 2012 (Spring Valley) -- Officials from Grossmont Union High School District (GUHSD) and Steele Canyon High School celebrated the completion of the new aquatics facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 17. The Steele Canyon High School Aquatics Facility is the third and final pool completed in the district this year.

The 18,000-square-foot facility will serve local community groups, youth aquatics teams, physical education classes and California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) water polo and swim teams. The facility includes a 25m by 25-yard pool, team room/classroom, restroom and snack bar. The dedication ceremony featured remarks from Steele Canyon High School Principal Eileen Poole, Governing Board Member and CFO Jason Lee, GUHSD Board President Robert Shield, GUHSD Superintendent Ralf Swenson and comments from teacher and student representatives. The Steele Canyon High School swim team held their first practice in the new pool immediately after the event.

Proposition U funded the aquatics facility. Officials managed to complete the project within budget by using a Lease-Leaseback delivery method, which enables the district to select firms through a qualification-based process that provides flexibility and guarantees a delivery date. The project team included program manager Gafcon, Inc.; architect Trittipo Architecture and planning; and general contractor Sundt Construction.
