COUNTY TO HOLD VIRTUAL DIA DE LOS MUERTOS FESTIVAL SUNDAY

October 31, 2020 (San Diego) -- The County’s Parks and Recreation Department is holding a virtual Dia de los Muertos Festival from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, that will feature regional dance performances, a cultural story time and a “how-to” arts and crafts workshop.
The online celebration, which will also feature a virtual tour of the Rancho Guajome Adobe, will take place on the County Park’s YouTube channel — Youtube.com/SDCountyparks — and everyone is invited to join in! The festivities will be conducted in English and Spanish.

COLORFUL DISPLAYS HONOR RITA HAYWORTH, DAUGHTER OF IMMIGRANTS, IN DIA DE LOS MUERTOS CELEBRATION AT NEW AMERICANS MUSEUM

November 15, 2014 (San Diego)--The galleries at New Americans Museum on Saturday, November 1, 2014 were filled with visitors who came to celebrate Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead, and to learn about this Mexican holiday. The New Americans Museum created an altar installation for dancer and film star Rita Hayworth. The altar was constructed by the museum staff and a group of 18 immigrant students under the guidance of Professor Jose Flores from the University Atonoma de Baja, California where he teaches the origins, analysis, symbolism, and history of Dia de los Muertos. October 29, 2011 (Borrego Springs) -- The Borrego Art Institute and the Borrego schools are planning a major celebration of the Dia de los Muertos - Day of the Dead this year. The celebration will be at the Art Institute Gallery, in the Mall, on Wednesday, November 2, 10:00 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.,
587 Palm Canyon Dr # 105, Borrego Springs, CA. There will be music, dancing, and food -- a real family celebration. The two-day event features multiple activities, performances, and opportunities for the community to celebrate and learn about this cultural tradition.
