TAX PROPOSAL WOULD REVERSE PROGRESS IN ENSURING ALL CALIFORNIA VETERANS HAVE A PLACE TO CALL HOME

November 15, 2017 (Sacramento) – CalVet Secretary Dr. Vito Imbasciani has issued a stating warning veterans about the impacts of the tax proposal in Congress.

He says, “Former service members living in California could end up on the streets if Congress passes its draft tax proposal. This hasty plan would eliminate tax-exempt bonds, which help us fight homelessness and find affordable housing for California veterans.”

CALVET'S RATE COMPETITIVE WITH COMMERCIAL BANKS

 

June 17, 2013 (San Diego) – The CalVet Home Loan Program now offers interest rates as low as 3.90%* on a 30-year mortgage to qualified veterans in the market to purchase a home. CalVet’s interest rates are now very competitive with rates being offered by commercial institutions, such as Chase Bank which offers a rate of 4.00%**, Wells Fargo Bank at 4.13%**, and Bank of America at 4.00%**.

CALVET CELEBRATES WOMEN VETERANS HISTORY WEEK IN CALIFORNIA MARCH 18-24

March 18, 2013 (Sacramento) –  Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. has proclaimed Women Veterans History Week in California, March 18-24, 2013 to honor their courage and sacrifice in defense of our nation.

“Currently, women make up 14% of the active duty U.S. Armed Forces and 18% of the Guard and Reserves.  Women also make up 8 percent of the total U.S. veterans population and 10 percent of the veterans population in California,” said Peter J. Gravett, CalVet Secretary.  “Nationally and statewide, the women veteran population will continue to grow. Therefore, it is imperative that we remember to recognize and honor their service and contributions, as they often face unique challenges when transitioning out of the military and back into our communities.”

 November 12, 2011 (California) -- Veterans now have a new smart phone tool to help them connect with their benefits and find services that will help them successfully transition from military to civilian life.
