January 26, 2011 (Rancho San Diego) - Only a few miles separate Granite Hills and Valhalla high schools from each other. The players and coaches from both teams know each other well. Both schools have girls basketball teams with winning records fighting for top position in Grossmont Hills league play.
It was not surprising that Friday night's rivalry game (1/21) between these two teams at Valhalla High School was a tightly contested, spirited matchup in the first half. In the second half however, the visting Eagles' defense intensified and limited the Norsemen to just 11 points in a 42-32 Granite Hills win.

January 25, 2011 (Rancho San Diego) - When most coaches talk about playing defense, they use terms like 'deny' and 'shut down'. When your opponent has a player as talented as Granite Hills' Garrett Larch-Miller, who averages 26 points per game, defensive vocabulary changes to 'containing' and 'slowing down'.
In Friday night's boys basketball game at Valhalla High School, the host Norsemen were able to slow Larch-Miller down enough to pull out a 54-44 win over the Eagles.

September 7, 2010 (San Diego/Pacific Beach) - Friday afternoon's football season opener between the Valhalla High School Norsemen and the host Buccaneers of Mission Bay High School was a matchup between two playoff contenders from last season. East County's Valhalla proved victorious in a crushing 38-0 blow-out.

(RANCHO SAN DIEGO) November 27 - That's why they play the game. Such a statement is typical after a game like Friday night's playoff matchup between the visiting Highlanders of Helix High School and the host Norsemen of Valhalla High School.
As fans and self-proclaimed experts, we often play the game on paper, giving out predictions and speculation without regard to the fact that the game is played on a field. Most of the time we get away with it, but this wasn't one of those times.

Friday night's football game at Steele Canyon High School between the host Cougars and the visiting Norsemen of Valhalla High School was a great example of why this reminder is so true.

(RANCHO SAN DIEGO) October 16 - Friday night's game between Valhalla High School's Norsemen and the Mt. Miguel Matadors had nearly everything a fan could want: a closely contested match between two competitive, talented teams that would not be decided until almost the last minute. It was a game that truly lived up to all the hype it received beforehand.

September 10,2009 (El Cajon) - In the second Game of the Week, we're going to stay at Valhalla to see a couple of East County rivals square off. Grossmont makes a short drive south to face Valhalla Friday night.
