March 14, 2013 (San Diego's East County)--Give the Dream, a fundraising extravaganza to benefit Grossmont and Cuyamaca College students facing financial emergencies, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 16 at three East County locations: Grossmont Center, Parkway Plaza and Santee Trolley Square Center.
The event is being held to raise money for Dreamkeepers, a program that awards scholarships of up to $500 to students who face a financial hardship that threatens their ability to stay in college.

October 2, 2012 (Carlsbad) -- The San Diego County Water Authority released a proposed Water Purchase Agreement with Poseidon Resources, the private developer of the planned seawater desalination plant in Carlsbad. The release opens a public review period that includes two special evening public meetings to share information on the agreement and to receive public comment.
The agreement specifies the proposed commercial and financial terms for the production and delivery of water from the planned desalination plant to the Water Authority’s regional water delivery and treatment system. It also includes terms for the potential purchase of the plant by the Water Authority.

May 27, 2012 (El Cajon)--Women Give San Diego, a local nonprofit organization, has awarded Grossmont College’s Office Professional Training (OPT) program a $15,500 grant to assist with counseling services for OPT students.
The college’s OPT program provides up-to-date skills training for jobs in professional office settings in the accounting, insurance, and financial services fields. More than 2,200 students have graduated from the OPT program since it started in 1985.

May 16, 2012 (San Diego County) -- In the past week the Sheriff's Elder Abuse Unit has received information about two telephone scams which prey upon elderly residents of San Diego County. The first scam involved a suspect who claimed to be a 'relative' of an elderly woman whom he could not reach by phone.

May 7, 2012 (Santa Ysabel)-- The Iipay Nation of the Santa Ysabel Tribe is holding its ground against San Diego County demands for a $3 million arbitration settlement. The tribe states that the county projections were unrealistic and fundamentally flawed. The Santa Ysabel Tribe affirms the casino is willing to pay a fair settlement within its actual, not projected, situation.

Several workshops scheduled in 2012 to help thousands of American families avert foreclosure
January 22, 2012 (San Diego)--Wells Fargo & Company is hosting the first of three free workshops across Southern California in San Diego for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, Wells Fargo Financial, Wachovia Mortgage and Wells Fargo Home Equity customers facing financial hardships. Wells Fargo has invited more than 9,000 mortgage customers in San Diego County and South West Riverside to the free workshop which will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m., at the San Diego Convention Center - Hall E located at 111 West Harbor Drive in San Diego. Parking is free - customers should refer to the event website for instructions.
