May 11, 2015 (San Diego) - The San Diego Blood Bank (SDBB), the primary supplier of blood to the majority of hospitals in San Diego County, will introduce their newest blood mobile with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego, 3020 Children’s Way, San Diego.

2014 KIDS CARE FEST SEPT. 20 IN LA MESA: FREE HEALTH CARE SCREENINGS FOR 1,000 CHILDREN

 

 

 

 

 

 

September 9, 2014 (La Mesa)--The date has been announced for the 2014 Kids Care Fest, a free, family-oriented event open to the public featuring free health care screenings. This year’s Kids Care Fest will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20 at Briercrest Park, 9001 Wakarusa St., La Mesa. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Now in its 13th year, Kids Care Fest is presented by the Grossmont Healthcare District, La Mesa Park & Recreation Foundation and the City of La Mesa.

Organizers expect more than 1,000 children will receive free, potentially life-saving, health care screenings, including hearing, vision and dental screenings, from healthcare professionals.

June 12, 2013 (La Mesa)- On Saturday, June 15,  the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce and the Grossmont Healthcare District will again team up to produce Summer Healthcare Saturday, a one day health exposition that will be held at Grossmont Center in La Mesa.

The event will feature free demonstrations, free health information and screenings. Up to 75 booths are expected to be present and lining up throughout the mall.

Herrick Community Health Care Library, 9001 Wakarusa St. in La Mesa, will host a free senior discussion group presentation on “Alternatives to Google: Finding Health Information Online,” from 10 to 11 a.m. today. The public is invited to attend, and RSVP is not required. The speaker will be Kathy Quinn, library director of the Herrick Library.

Quinn, with 21 years of experience as a librarian and researcher, will share tips on how to find reliable, accurate and trustworthy information on the Internet about your health. The presentation will include a demonstration of the links to health information available on the Herrick Library website. Handouts on how to evaluate health websites and reliable sites to search will be provided.

January 26, 2013 (La Mesa) -- The board of directors of the Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD) has elected its board officers for 2013. Elected for one-year terms were Dr. Michael T. Long as president, Robert “Bob” Ayres as vice president and Gloria Chadwick as secretary. Long also appointed board member Michael Emerson as treasurer. Also serving on the five-member board is Betty Stieringer.

ECM contacted all candidates and obtained responses  from eight of the nine (all but Emad Bakeer). Virtually all saw the same principal issues facing the district, though they differ on solutions--and their approaches differ as much as their backgrounds.

July 10, 2011 (La Mesa) -- A volunteer citizens group overseeing the Grossmont Healthcare District’s spending of $247 million in voter-approved bonds for construction infrastructure projects at Sharp Grossmont Hospital has two new members. La Mesa resident Glen Sparrow, a retired San Diego University professor, and Lakeside resident Kenneth Lavigne, training director with the Sheet Metal Workers International Association, Local 206, have agreed to serve on GHD’s Independent Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee (ICBOC). Both were recently appointed to the ICBOC by GHD board of directors.

March 3, 2011 (La Mesa) -- The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD), a taxpayer-supported public agency that serves as landlord of Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, has announced the sale of $136,860,000 in general obligation (G.O.) bonds to both institutional and retail investors in the U.S. municipal bond market. The bond proceeds will help provide ongoing financing for a number of capital improvement construction projects planned over the next several years at the publicly owned hospital.

GROSSMONT HEALTH DISTRICT GIVES $150,000 GRANT TO VOLUNTEERS IN MEDICINE

 

Funds to cover diagnostic tests and medical supplies for patients without insurance

The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD) board of directors has voted to approve a $150,000 grant to Volunteers in Medicine – San Diego, Inc. (VIM), a non-profit that brings together medical professionals and patients who don’t have health insurance. 

 

The money will pay for diagnostic lab fees and medical supplies, as well as X-ray and ultrasound tests, for uninsured East County residents who are treated for free at the VIM El Cajon medical clinic at 1457 East Madison Ave.

The GHD board of directors recently voted unanimously to approve a grant of $49,000 to help fund CASA’s Students Together Against Alcohol ‘N Drugs (STAAND), a youth advocacy program.
