HIGH WINDS, RAIN AND SNOW TO AFFECT HOLIDAY TRAVEL

December 24, 2015 (San Diego’s East County) – The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning in effect from Christmas Eve through Christmas morning in San Diego’s mountain and desert regions.  Winds of 35-40 miles per hour with gusts up to 80 mph are forecast. 

A cold front is also moving across the region, bringing rain and snow down as low as 3,000 feet.

STRONG WINDS, SHOWERS SUNDAY AND MONDAY

November 14, 2015 (San Diego’s East County) –Strong winds across our region are forecast for Sunday afternoon through Monday, with gusts over 70 miles per hour possible on mountain crests and desert mountain slopes and gusts of 35 to 60 mph in mountain and desert areas. 

Gale force wind gusts of 35 to 40 knots are also forecast over coastal waters, says Stephen Harrison, meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

Showers are also forecast, with rainfall light in most areas, though mountains could receive a half inch of precipitation.

HIGH WIND WARNING

 

January 13, 2013 (San Diego’s East County) – The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for our region.  Strong and gusty north to northeasterly winds will develop over inland and coastal water areas Monday through Tuesday. Damaging winds gusts of 60 miles per hour or more will be possible through and below wind prone canyons and passes.

Frost and freeze warnings remain in effect for portions of the mountains and deserts tonight, though temperatures are expected to begin warming on Tuesday and Wednesday.

December 11, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning. A Pacific storm is forecast to bring cold temperatures, rain and heavy snowfall to our region Monday and Tuesday.

FROST ADVISORY ISSUED

 

December 30, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) – The National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory for San Diego’s inland valleys and lower deserts for late tonight through mid-morning Friday. Temperatures are expected to dip into the upper 20s to low 30s, with isolated areas in the mid-20s. Strong, gusty winds are also forecast.

BRRRR! COLD TEMPS AND NEW STORM TO HIT REGION TUESDAY NIGHT; HIGH WINDS AND SNOW FORECAST FOR EAST COUNTY MOUNTAINS & HIGH DESERTS

 

December 27, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) -- A winter storm is set to hit San Diego County Tuesday night and Wednesday, followed by chilly temperatures and up to two inches of snow down to 4000 feet in East County’s mountains and snow flurries in the high desert regions. Near zero visibility is forecast due to blowing snow and high wind gusts up to 60 mph.

 

Moderate to heavy rains are predicted. The National Weather Service warns that the added rainfall will cause rapid runoff and flooding due to ground saturation from recent storms.

EAST COUNTY RESIDENTS COPE WITH FLOODING AND STORM DAMAGE

December 22, 2010 (San Diego’s East County)4:30 p.m.-- In Blossom Valley, one property owner found a creative place to shelter her horses during the storm.

 

“My horses were up to their knees this morning, so the net came down and the hay went in,” said Catherine Sacks in an e-mail sent to East County Magazine, along with the photo at left. “Tennis anyone?”

 

On Fletcher Parkway, a mud slide is currently blocking two lanes on the hill heading east down to El Cajon. Meanwhile in Alpine, Via Viejas Road is flooding as Viejas Creek has over-flowed a small dam at the Little Lake in Palo Verde Ranch, reports resident George Barnett.

July 16, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) – A special weather statement has been issued by the National Weather Service for San Diego’s inland valleys, mountain and desert regions due to extremely high temperatures that today reached 112 in Borrego, 102 in La Mesa, and 101 in Ramona. More hot weather is forecast this weekend, with a chance of thunderstorms.

April 11, 2010 (San Diego) – The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for all of San Diego County this evening and tomorrow. A storm system which originated in Alaska is expected to bring rain to most of the region, with three to six inches of snow possible above 6,000 and snow levels dropping to 5,500 feet. In addition, gusty winds over 50 miles per hour are forecast for mountain and desert areas.

A Pacific storm will bring wind, rain and snow to San Diego County starting late tonight. WINTER STORM WARNING: HEAVY SNOW IN MOUNTAINS, COASTAL FLOODING

 

January 21, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) – The National Weather Service has issued an urgent alert for a winter storm warning in San Diego County mountains from 6 p.m. tonight through 6 p.m. Friday evening. Heavy snow measuring 8 to 16 inches is possible above 4,000 feet with greater amounts in some areas. Winds with gusts up to 45 mph, will cause near zero visibility in blowing and drifting snow.

January 20, 2010 (San Diego County, 7:45 p.m.) – Severe storms have left many roads flooded throughout the county, prompting road closures and rescue operations. CHP reports the following areas are flooded in East County:

• RAMONA: junction of Ramona St. and H St.
• EL CAJON: W. Bradley at N.. Magnolia
• LAKESIDE: Willows Rd. and Bobcat Lane, also Woodside Ave. and Riverford Rd.

STORM UPROOTS TREES, KILLS 1 EAST COUNTY WOMAN; NEW STORM TO HIT THIS AFTERNOON

 

FLASH FLOOD WATCH ISSUED FOR LATE TODAY
 

January 20, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) – Yesterday’s severe storm prompted the National Weather Service to issue a tornado warning mid-afternoon. Countywide, the strongest wind gusts were reported on Mt. Woodson, where wind speeds reached 75 mph. In Julian, wind gusts of 61 mph were reported. Gale-force winds around the county uprooted numerous trees and caused power outages in multiple areas, also claiming at least one life.

September 21, 2009 (San Diego) – The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning cautioning Southern California residents of “explosive fire growth potential” due to a combination of strong winds and low humidity, which will be in effect from 9 a.m. Tuesday through 9 p.m. Thursday due to gusty winds and low humidity. The red flag warning includes inland, mountain and desert areas in San Diego's East County.
