November 30, 2023 (Lakeside)  --Two people were injured after a fight ended in a shooting and stabbing in Lakeside on Saturday, November 25. 

 

Shortly before 7:30 p.m., deputies from the Lakeside Sheriff's substation responded to reports of a shooting in the 12000 block of Woodside Avenue.

GUN SHOT SOUND IN LA PRESA SPRING VALLEY LAST NIGHT APPARENTLY A HOMICIDE

Update July 15, 2021:  On July 13, the Medical Examiner's Office conducted the autopsy and has identified the victim as Donte Anthony Lopez, 42, of San Diego. Lopez's family has been notified of his death. The preliminary cause of death is gunshot wound and the manner of death is homicide.

July 12, 2021 (La Presa/Spring Valley, Calif.) -- Law enforcement is encouraging anyone with information about a shooting last night around 11 p.m. near the intersection of Elkelton Blvd. and Crestmore Ave. in unincorporated San Diego County to come forward and speak with the Sheriff’s Homicide Unit, or, to stay anonymous, Crime Stoppers.

MAN ALLEGEDLY SHOOTS AT SHERIFF DEPUTIES IN UNINCORPORATED EL CAJON

July 12, 2021 (Unincorporated San Diego County) -- A man is facing numerous drug and weapons charges after firing a shotgun in the direction of Sheriff's Deputies in the East County. 
 
It happened on Sunday, July 11 just before 6:30 a.m. near Valle De Paz Road in an unincorporated area of El Cajon.  Deputies from the Alpine Sheriff's Substation were responding to calls of a man acting erratically and holding a rifle.  After setting up a perimeter around an area where the man was last seen, a shotgun blast was fired in the deputies' direction.  The shotgun slug hit a nearby home.  No deputies or citizens were hurt.

MAN KILLED, ANOTHER INJURED IN EL CAJON SHOOTING

March 24, 2020 (El Cajon) – Two young men, both 20-year-old El Cajon residents, were shot during a confrontation March 20 shortly before 8 p.m., near the intersection of Applewood Drive and Cedar Street. One man was shot in the torso and died at a hospital. The other was shot in the leg and is expected to survive, according to Lieutenant Jeremiah Larson with El Cajon Police department.
 
Police responded to calls reporting gunshots heard with several people fleeing the area at 7:55 p.m. Witnesses described the confrontation. The names of the victims are not being released at this time pending notification of the families.

DEATH IN EL CAJON MAY HAVE BEEN DRIVE-BY SHOOTING

March 17, 2020 (El Cajon)—A man in his 40s was fatally shot last night shortly before 10 p.m. at East Main and First Street in El Cajon.
 
“Witnesses said the suspect/suspects were possibly in a vehicle when they fire at the victim who had been standing on the sidewalk,” says Lt. K. MacArthur in a press statement.

WITNESSES SOUGHT TO SHOOTINGS ON I-8 AND HIGHWAY 125 IN LA MESA

February 17, 2020 (La Mesa) – California Highway Patrol seeks witnesses to two separate shootings of a motorist Saturday night. The victim was driving on I-8 east near Waring Rd. around 9:30 p.m. when the driver of an unknown vehicle behind began firing a gun.  The victim turned onto State Route 125 north and the suspect followed, firing multiple rounds and striking the victim in the arm, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Salvador Castro.
 
The suspect fled and not been found. No vehicle description has been provided. The victim drove to his home in Grantville, where someone called for help.

May 2, 2019 (La Mesa) – Daniel Chase McKibben, 36, was shot in the shoulder and hand by a La Mesa Police officer who fired three shots at 9:15 a.m., Chief Walt Vasquez reports  Officers responded to a call reporting a trespasser who refused to leave a residence at 7920 Rainey Street and found the suspect armed with a knife.

COVERT CANYON SHOOTING SITE IN ALPINE IS IN DEFAULT ON PAYMENTS

November 20, 2017 (Alpine) – Covert Canyon, a controversial firearms training facility long utilized by military and law enforcement as well as private gun enthusiasts, faces potential foreclosure.  CBS 8 reports that a notice of default was filed against owner Marc Halcon on October 26th.  If he does not pay $40,000 within 90 days, the property can be foreclosed on and sold at auction.

SHOOTING IN EL CAJON

January 31, 2013 (El Cajon) -- A shooting in El Cajon may be gang related, Lt. Frank LaHaye with the El Cajon Police Department said.  A 21-year-old victim from San Diego and two companions were involved in a verbal altercation with an unknown suspect at 2:40 p.m. on Saturday, January 26 when the shooting occurred in the 400 block of N. Magnolia. The suspect is described as a black male, age 16 to 21, about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build.

The victim has been hospitalized for treatment of his injury.

This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding this shooting is encouraged to contact the El Cajon Police Department at (619) 579-3311.

SUSPECT FATALLY SHOT BY OFFICERS IN ENCANTO

January 15, 2013 (Encanto)--San Diego Police Department Homicide Unit detectives are investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred in the Encanto neighborhood of east San Diego.

According to police, on Saturday, January 12 around 1:17 a.m., a San Diego police officer patrolling the area saw a car speeding eastbound in the 5400 block of Imperial Avenue.  The officer attempted to stop the car for the speeding violation; however the driver failed to yield to the officer’s police lights and siren. Two other officers assisted in the pursuit, chasing the car to the 6500 block of Brooklyn Avenue.

ESCONDIDO MAN SHOT AFTER PULLING GUN ON POLICE OFFICER IN THEATER AT CARMEL MOUNTAIN RANCH

January 13, 2013 (San Diego)--San Diego Police Department homicide detectives are investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred inside a movie theater in Carmel Mountain Ranch.

Officers responded at 2:22 p.m., Saturday to a radio call of a domestic violence incident occurring in a parking lot at a shopping center in the 11100 block of Rancho Carmel Drive.  Officers arrived to find the suspect had fled the scene.  Witnesses described seeing the suspect, who was armed with a handgun, run across Rancho Carmel Drive to another shopping center.

MAN SHOT IN EL CAJON

October 5, 2012 (El Cajon)--El Cajon Police responded to calls reporting gunshots heard in the 1300 block of Oakdale this evening at 7:40 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found a 22-year-old man with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his leg.

"Officers were able to determine there was some type of argument in the street just prior to the shooting. The victim was transported to an area hospital. It is unclear at this time what led to the shooting," said Lt. Mike Moulton.

MAN SHOT IN HEAD IN LA MESA; POLICE SEEK TWO SUSPECTS SEEN RUNNING FROM SCENE

On October 5, 2012 (La Mesa)—At 5:22 p.m. yesterday, La Mesa Police Department received reports of “shots heard” and a victim on the ground in the area of 5800 Amarillo Avenue. Upon arrival, La Mesa Police Officers found an unknown white male lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds to the head.  He was transported to a local hospital and is in critical condition.

FATAL SHOOTING IN RAMONA

September 24, 2012 (Ramona) – A man, 34, was shot and killed in Ramona on September 16 at 3 p.m. following an altercation with a homeowner and the homeowner’s son in the 1300 block of Walnut Street.

According to Lt. Glenn Giannantonio with the Sheriff’s Homicide Detail,  the victim was unknown to the homeowner.  “The man got into an argument with the homeowner and the two started fighting. The homeowner's adult son also got involved in the altercation. The homeowner's son retrieved a gun from the residence and the man was ordered to leave at gunpoint. There was a struggle over the gun and the man was shot by the homeowner.”

MAN SHOT IN LEMON GROVE

Update March 25, 2012: The victim has been identified as Avel Michael Jordan Edgar, 21. According to the San Diego Medical Examiner, he died of a gunshot wound to the head.

March 17, 2012 (Lemon Grove) – Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call to a home at 8232 Mount Vernon Street in Lemon Grove, where a man had been shot, the evening of March 14.  Paramedics determined that the man was deceased.

There were several people inside the home at the time of the incident and they are being interviewed to determine what occurred.  There are currently two suspects in the case described as adult black males.
