EL CAJON TO HONOR VETERANS AT CENTENNIAL FAREWELL NOV. 12

 

November 6, 2013 (El Cajon) – The City of El Cajon invites the public to join in the Centennial Farewell festivities on Tuesday, November 12 at the Centennial Plaza, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m.  Centennial Plaza is located at 200 Civic Center Way. This Farewell Celebration will also include a special tribute to veterans, as well as honoring those who have volunteered more than 100 hours in the El Cajon Community, through the 100 Hours, Honoring 100 Years Centennial Volunteer program.

EL CAJON CENTENNIAL MOMENTS: SHARING A PIECE OF CITY HISTORY AT HISTORIC HOME TOUR MAY 4

April 25, 2013 (El Cajon) – In celebration of El Cajon’s Centennial, the El Cajon Historical Society will sponsor a tour of the Historic JPR Hall Ranch House in El Cajon on Saturday, May 4, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Lemonade and iced tea will be available in the garden. Admission is $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Reserve space by mailing checks to ECHS, P.O. Box 1973, El Cajon, CA 92022.

This home is rarely open to the public. Proceeds benefit the El Cajon Historical Society.

Below is an excerpt from Bus and Auto Tour of Historical El Cajon by the El Cajon Historical Society. The excerpt describes the Historic JPR Hall Ranch House, which was the focal point of a 60-acre ranch with wheat, hay, an orchard and a vineyard planted by the parents and siblings of W.D. Hall.

CITY OF EL CAJON WINS SPECIAL AWARD FOR CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION

March 17, 2013 (El Cajon) – The City of El Cajon Recreation Department is the recipient of California Park and Recreation Society’s (CPRS) Achievement Award for the City’s Centennial Celebration Event held on November 12, 2012. The award was announced in February, and formally presented at the March 12, 2013, City Council Meeting by CPRS Board President Susan Richardson.

Richardson stated that El Cajon is one of the leaders in the State of California in recognizing that recreation programs and parks are essential to the quality of life within a community.

FROM THE FLUME TO THE OZONE:NEXT IN THE HISTORICAL SPEAKER SERIES FEB. 7 IN EL CAJON

January 27, 2013 (El Cajon) -- El Cajon’s Centennial Historical Speaker series continues for 2013.  The next speaker is Ms. Kate Breece from Helix Water District, with a presentation titled “From the Flume to the Ozone.”

This talk is scheduled for Thursday, February 7th, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Downtown El Cajon Library, located at 201 East Douglas Avenue.  Talks are scheduled for the first and third Thursday of the month.  Light refreshments will also be provided.

MOTHER GOOSE PARADE NOV. 18 TO DEPICT A CENTENNIAL OF HISTORY IN EL CAJON

November 12, 2012 (El Cajon) - In honor of El Cajon's centennial celebration, each chapter of this year's 66th annual Mother Goose Parade will be dedicated to a 10-year period of the city's history.

Mayor Mark Lewis will be the grand marshall of the parade, which features elaborate floats, equestrians, marching bands, and Santa Claus to usher in the holiday season.

November 12, 2012 (El Cajon )—Congressional members Duncan Hunter and Susan Davis, community leaders, a  Navy color guard and citizens from across East County turned out this morning for a ceremony honoring veterans, celebrating the city of El Cajon’s centennial, and dedicating two legacy projects.

“May El Cajon continue to be the gateway to East County, a refugee to many, a thriving community and  place we all call home,” Chaplain Chuck Price with the El Cajon Police entreated in the invocation. 

EL CAJON HOSTS CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION: FREE FESTIVITIES FOR COMMUNITY ON MONDAY, NOV. 12

 

November 9, 2012 (El Cajon)--On November 12,  the City of El Cajon will celebrate 100 years as a city.

Free festivities at this community celebration will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in downtown El Cajon on Rea Ave. and East Main St. between Magnolia and Claydelle Avenues. The area will be closed to traffic.

THIRD GRADE ESSAY CONTEST AWARDS CEREMONY JUNE 4

May 12, 2012 (El Cajon) – Winners and participants of the Third Grade Essay Contest will be recognized June 4 in a ceremony at the Ronald Reagan Community Center, 195 E. Douglas Ave., El Cajon at 7:00 p.m.  Local students learning about pioneers and settlers are invited to write an essay.

CHEERS! EL CAJON ANNOUNCES VICE REVIVAL FOR CENTENNIAL

April 1, 2012 (El Cajon ) – Before El Cajon became an incorporated city back in 1912, horse racing down Main Street was a popular pastime.  The town’s saloons also attracted visitors including gold miners and cowboys from the backcountry.  But Temperance Society members and women, who had just won the right to vote, lobbied the new city council to ban both practices.

Now, however, El Cajon announces a bold new plan to revive the city’s ailing economy and boost tourism in its centennial year by bringing back a long-lost feature from the past: vice.
