April 22, 2023 (San Diego) - San Diego State junior pitcher TJ Fondtain (Clovis, Calif./Buchanan HS) added to his growing list of credentials on Friday after tossing the first no-hitter of his collegiate career in the Aztecs’ 4-0 victory over Nevada in the opener of a Mountain West series at Tony Gwynn Stadium.

September 5, 2021 (San Diego’s East County) – “As school season is starting back up, I am aware of the financial barriers that many parents or students face,” says Supervisor Joel Anderson in an email to constituents listing scholarships available. “Having three children go through this process, I understand the value behind scholarship opportunities and the importance behind financial assistance,” he adds. “I’ve asked my staff to assemble this list of financial resources and scholarship opportunities available to you.”

This list is not officially endorsed by the County, but was created to assist students attain their goals of continuing their education. Anderson says his staff made an effort to find diverse scholarship opportunities and reminds students that many of these opportunities have upcoming deadlines.

LA MESA AND SANTEE SEEK PAGEANT CONTESTANTS

September 27, 2015 (San Diego’s East County)--On Saturday, March 5, 2016 the cities of La Mesa and Santee will hold one of their most grand traditions, the Miss La Mesa and Miss Santee scholarship pageants.  The pageant is currently seeking outgoing residents ages 12-26 to participate in a program that has been a tradition in the cities since the late 1960’s and is an outstanding mentoring program for young women.  The pageants are sponsored by the local Chamber of Commerce and focus on community service, networking, improving public speaking and interview skills and overall personal growth.

GROSSMONT HEALTHCARE DISTRICT AWARDS $85,000 IN SCHOLARLARSHIPS TO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FOR HEALTHCARE STUDIES

 

March 29, 2014 (La Mesa)--The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD), a public agency that supports various health-related community programs and services in San Diego’s East County region, recently awarded $85,500 in scholarships to 38 high school students who have expressed interest in a career as a healthcare professional.

ATTENTION STUDENTS: FREE CASH FOR FINANCIAL AID WORKSHOPS

 

Elected officials, school district urge student participation at college aid workshops

January 25, 2014 (San Diego)--High school seniors, local elected officials and San Diego Unified School District representatives announce plans to increase the number of San Diego-area high school students applying for free college financial aid. Students are urged to attend one of 13 upcoming “Cash for College” financial aid workshops.

In 2013, San Diego region workshop participants were offered more than $3 million in federal and Cal Grant aid.

Seniors who attend a workshop and apply for a Cal Grant by the March 2 deadline could also qualify for an extra $1,000 Cash for College scholarship offered at each workshop. The workshops, titled “Free Application for Federal Student Aid & Califiornia Dream Act Application Workshops, will be held between January 25 and March 1. $100,000 IN COX CARES SCHOLARSHIPS UP FOR GRABS – DEADLINE IS FEB. 6

January 16, 2013 (San Diego) – Graduating high school seniors can earn up to $10,000 towards a college education through to Cox Cares scholarship program.  Cox Communications has been awarding college scholarships for 13 years and this year will be awarding $100,000 state-wide.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR NON-CITIZENS, CITIZENS AND AB540 STUDENTS

October 29, 2012 (San Diego) –San Diego is home to immigrants and refugees from around the world.  The Mano A Mano Foundation has provided the following list of scholarships available to non-citizens as well as citizens and AB 540 students. AB540 is a California bill passed on October 12, 2001 that allows undocumented students who meet certain requirements to pay in-state tuition instead of out-of-state tuition in California's higher institutions. HOW OUR NATIONAL DEBT HELPED PAY FOR MY COLLEGE EDUCATION

June 19, 2012 (San Diego)--Recently I won a $48,000 scholarship funded by STOP2011, a Heartland Coalition project. This number represents more than a weight off my chest for college, however. It is the amount of debt each American owes if the United States national deficit was divided by the number of our citizens.
