February 7, 2013 (Washington D.C.) – This week marks the completion of Congressman Scott Peters’ first month in office. Since Peters was sworn in on January 3rd, he has been appointed to two key committees, helped introduce bipartisan legislation to repeal burdensome medical device taxes, and voted to improve Congress’ preparedness and accountability.

CALIFORNIA OFFICIALLY FILES WAIVER SEEKING RELIEF FROM ‘NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND’ MANDATES

 
June 19, 2012 (Sacramento) -- Supported by many of California’s leading educators and school advocates, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson and State Board of Education (SBE) President Michael Kirst today officially submitted California’s request to set aside specified requirements of Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), also known as ‘No Child Left Behind.’

CALIFORNIA SEEKS STATE-DEFINED WAIVER TO PROVIDE RELIEF FROM UNWORKABLE MANDATES OF 'NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND'

 
May 13, 2012 (Sacramento) -- The State Board of Education (SBE) today voted to seek a state-defined waiver of selected provisions of the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), which would allow the state to use its accountability system to focus improvement efforts on the lowest performing schools and provide schools greater flexibility over the use of federal funds.
