WRONG-WAY DRIVER, SUSPECTED OF DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE, CAUSES HEAD-ON CRASH ON I-8 IN LA MESA

March 26, 2020 (La Mesa) – An SUV traveling the wrong-way on Interstate 8 just east of 70th Street in La Mesa struck a red BMW head-one shortly before midnight last night. Both motorists sustained major life-threatening injuries and were transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego.
 
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Travis Garrow, the CHP began getting calls at 11:56 p.m. reporting the SUV traveling west in the eastbound lanes of I-8.  Two minutes later, witnesses reported a head-on collision.

July 26, 2015 (Lakeside)—A head-on crash on Lakeside’s Wildcat Canyon Road near Blue Sky Ranch killed two people early this morning, the California Highway Patrol reports.

SERIOUS ACCIDENT IN POWAY

April 11, 2013 (Poway) – A head-on collision in Poway on April 8 at 3:02 p.m. has caused serious injury. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash on Metate Lane at Alpine Drive.

According to the Sheriff, a preliminary investigation found that the driver of a sedan traveling westbound fell asleep at the wheel and drove into the eastbound lanes, colliding head-on with an oncoming sport utility vehicle (SUV).  Both drivers were taken to a hospital. The sedan driver suffered non-life-threatening but serious injuries. The SUV driver suffered minor injuries. Both were released from the hospital a short time later.

Metate Lane was closed for two hours. DUI is not suspected as a factor.

RAMONA ATTORNEY KILLED IN TEXAS CAR WRECK

 
June 1, 2012 (Ramona) – Fred Ulysses Hammett, 70, an attorney from Ramona, died  Wednesday in a head-on collision that also claimed the life of a mother and her three young children.
 
Hammett was in Texas to attend his sister’s memorial service.  He was driving a rental SUV when he was struck head-on by a Ford pickup truck. The pickup was driving the wrong direction on I-20 in Mesquite, Texas and reportedly almost struck a Texas trooper’s car before hitting Hammett’s vehicle.
