March 14, 2013 (San Diego)--Three additional deaths were reported for this flu season, including the first child’s death, the County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) announced yesterday.
A 10-month old child who had underlying health conditions died in February and was referred to the medical examiner to determine the cause of death. In past flu seasons, San Diego has reported zero or one pediatric death each year due to influenza. Last year there was one pediatric death. The total number of overall deaths for this flu season is 51.

Flu Vaccine Recommended for Everyone September 25, 2011 (San Diego) -- Last season,there were 24 influenza-related deaths in San Diego County, the second highest total ever reported in our region. The record was established during the 2009-10 season—the height of H1N1—when 58 flu-related deaths were reported locally. Prior to that, the highest number of influenza deaths—22—was reported during the 2003-04 flu season.

August 15, 2011 (San Diego)--According to an article in Friday’s Union-Tribune (Aug 12), “State to reduce supply of free flu vaccines,” San Diego County will receive 30,000 “fewer free flu vaccines available for low-income adults than in previous years.”

December 15, 2009 (San Diego) – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have issued a voluntary recall of 800,000 doses of H1N1 flu vaccine in pre-filled syringes for children ages 6 to 36 months. Testing by manufacturer Sanofi Pasteur found reduced potency in four lots distributed nationwide, including 3,100 doses distributed in San Diego County.
