OPENING A PATH TO EMPLOYMENT FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

New Department of Education grants help SDSU address need for qualified vocational rehabilitation counselors.

November 11, 2019 (San Diego) - For people with disabilities, a job often can provide dignity, community and independence in addition to a paycheck.

To that end, faculty in SDSU’s Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling program—ranked No. 4 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report—have received two training grants from the U.S. Department of Education’s Rehabilitation Services Administration that will prepare students to help transition individuals with disabilities into the workforce.

September 19, 2019 (San Diego) – Police are actively searching for three possible suspects in an armed robbery that occurred at 4:17 p.m. today in the alley north of 5700 Montezuma Road, just off campus near San Diego State University.

BRUSH FIRE NEAR SDSU

September 15, 2019 (San Diego) - A brush fire is burnng at 5500 Canyon Crest near SDSU. SDFD has many firefighters on the ground as well as air resources on this fire and have now halted forward spread.

A student apartment complex has been evacuated. SDG&E cut electricity to trolley lines and MTS has rerouted trolley and bus service in the vicinity. A bus bridge is operating between Alvarado Trolley station and SDSU. The College Ave. offramp from I-8  is shut down due to the fire. 

Please avoid the area if possible.

August 28, 2019 (San Diego) - The Africa World Documentary Film Festival (AWDFF) closes its 2019 season in its new home, San Diego. This year the traveling festival was screened in Nigeria, Ghana, Thailand, Pennsylvania, New York, South Africa and Trinidad.  It will be at San Diego State University’s Don Powell Theatre on September 10 & 11. Then on September 12, the festival will conclude at the SDSU School of Art Downtown Gallery.

ARREST MADE IN SDSU SNAPCHAT CASE

May 1, 2019 (San Diego) - On Wednesday, May 1, at 2:35 p.m., a suspect was arrested on allegations of making criminal threats via Snapchat toward a member of San Diego State University’s black community. The suspect, an SDSU student not currently enrolled in classes, was identified by the University Police Department within 48 hours after being notified of the incident. Officers immediately began investigating the incident and worked quickly to identify the suspect based on his description in the video and social media account handle. The suspect has been identified as Martin J. Ruiz.

May 1, 2019 (San Diego) -- Three incidents in the past few weeks have targeted members of the black community at San Diego State University.

 

In March, a group of men yelled a racial slur from a vehicle while passing by the Black Resource Center on campus.  Then in mid-April, the center was vandalized, prompting a rally against racism and requests from student leaders for an alarm system.

April 28, 2019 (Gold River, Calif.) - Following Saturday’s first-place finishes in three preliminary races and a gold medal performance in the second varsity four final, the San Diego State rowing team wrapped its weekend on Lake Natoma at the WIRA Championships by earning bronze in the varsity eight final and golds in both the second varsity eight and varsity four.

April 27, 2019 (Las Vegas) - A two-out ninth-inning single by Matt Rudick scored a pair of Aztec runs and cut UNLV's lead to just one, but the San Diego State baseball team fell just short at Earl E. Stadium on Saturday night, falling to the Rebels 5-4. SDSU falls to 26-18 (11-8 Mountain West), while the Rebels now stand at 24-20 (11-12 MW).

April 27, 2019 (Fresno) - The No. 17 Aztec water polo team fell to No. 12 Loyola Marymount 10-5 in the semifinals of the GCC Championships Saturday afternoon at the Fresno State Aquatic Center. The Aztecs held a 2-1 lead early in the second quarter and then saw the Lions score seven unanswered goals, including six in the third quarter. SDSU will play for third place in the GCC Sunday at 12:45 p.m.

The Aztecs improved to 21-23 with the win and 8-9 in Mountain West play, while the league-leading Rams dropped to 35-8 and 16-4.

April 25, 2019 (San Diego) - Third-seeded San Diego State pulled off a 4-2 thriller over sixth-seeded Colorado State in Thursday’s Mountain West Championship quarterfinals to move on to the semifinal round for the first time since 2014. The Aztecs clinched the doubles point in two, and held on through a Rams comeback in singles play to clinch the decision.

April 23, 2019 (San Diego) - The San Diego State baseball team used a two-run eighth inning to defeat San Diego, 4-2, at Fowler Park and Cunningham Field on Tuesday night. The Aztecs, now 8-1 all-time at Fowler Park and 15-3 in their last 18 road games against San Diego, now stand at 25-17 on the year while the Toreros drop to 25-16.

April 20, 2019 (San Diego) - San Diego State wrapped up its regular-season schedule on a high note Saturday with a 4-0 triumph over UNLV in Mountain West dual match at Aztec Tennis Center.

With the victory, the Aztecs recorded their 10th win in the last 11 meetings vs. the Rebels, improving to 13-9 on the year and 4-3 in conference play. In addition, SDSU completed its fourth shutout of the spring and third against league opponents, while UNLV dropped its fourth in a row, falling to 13-8 overall and 2-5 in the MW.
