BRUSH FIRES IN DEER SPRINGS AREA ON I-15

 

April 11, 2013 (Escondido) --  Firefighters are responding to a brush fire at Deer Springs and I-15 in the Escondido area. According to the Incident Page Network there are several spot fires, with a larger header farther south. One fire is now over an acre.

According to the CHP there is a second spot fire starting one to two miles from the original fire.

I-8 CLOSURE AND HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS

 

April 8, 2013 (San Diego's East County)-- The CHP has shut down I-8 westbound at the Ocotillo grade to high-profile vehicles due to heavy winds. In addition, heavy fog is reported in Japatul Valley on I-8 east of Alpine.  Use caution if you must drive in these areas.

PRIVATE PLANE LANDS SAFELY ON STATE ROUTE 125

March 22, 2013 (Otay) -- This morning at 11:05, California Highway Patrol communications began receiving reports that a small private plane had been forced to land on the freeway after experiencing mechanical problems.  CHP officers responded to these reports and located the Cessna 150 on the right shoulder of State Route 125, near the Otay River Bridge.

I-8 CLOSED AND OTHER WEATHER-RELATED TRAFFIC PROBLEMS

February 20, 2013 (San Diego’s East County) – Interstate 8 is closed  this morning at Willows Road in Alpine due to ice and snow. There is a second closure in effect at Ocotillo. In addition, an accident has occurred at Viejas Grade and Willows Road and a rollover at Harbison Canyon, where two people are reported injured, per IPN.

Chains are required on Sunrise Highway.  Elsewhere in the county, rain, hail and snow are causing major delays for motorists. Use caution if you must drive during the storm.

February 11, 2013 (San Diego’s East County ) – Several major traffic issues pose problems for motorists this afternoon:

Sunrise Highway and Los Huecos Road on Mt. Laguna -- Boulders are blocking the roadway; road crews are en route.

Eastbound Highway 94 west of I-14:  A multi-vehicle accident is blocking several lanes.

A SIG alert remains in effect in Lakeside at Wildcat Canyon Road and Willows, due to yet another accident involving power lines.

WILDCAT CANYON STILL CLOSED FROM ACCIDENT THAT DOWNED POWERLINES

February 10, 2013 (Lakeside) -- Wildcat Canyon Road in Lakeside remains closed tonight between Willows Road and Muth Valley Road.  The route has been shut down since a vehicle accident downed power lines around 1:58 a.m.  According to the California Highway Patrol website, Wildcat Canyon, the main access route to Barona Casino, could remain closed all night.

SEVERE WEATHER CAUSES TRAFFIC HAZARDS , WHITE OUT CONDITIONS

February 8, 2012 (San Diego’s East County) – Avoid I-8 east of Alpine. White-out conditions are reported on I-8 at Crestwood/Campo. At Pine Valley, multiple vehicles have spun out due to snow and ice on the freeway. 

Chains are required on Palomar Mountain and Sunrise Highway,  and in other locations above 3,000 feet for two-wheel drive vehicles. 

In Valley Center, Woods Valley Road is closed overnight due to a power pole down.

A winter storm warning remains in effect countywide until 3 a.m.,with rain and snow falling. Stay off roads if possible and use extreme caution if you must travel.

WINTER STORM TO DROP SNOW LEVEL TO 2500 FEET

 

February 8, 2013 (San Diego’s East County ) – A cold front will bring chilly temperatures, thunderstorms and in mountain areas, snowfall starting Friday.  Four to ten inches of snow are expected to fall above 4,000 feet, with snow levels dipping down to 2500 feet or even lower Friday night and Saturday. 

Travel may be hazardous on portions of I-8 as well as on mountain roads.

HIGHWAY 78 CLOSED DUE TO FATALITY CRASH, POWER LINES DOWN

 

January 31, 2013 (Santa Ysabel/Ramona) – Highway 78 is shut down due to a fatality accident involving downed power lines. The rollover crash was reported close to 1 p.m. with occupants trapped inside the vehicle.  A Sig Alert has been issued. Highway 78 is closed in both directions from Old Julian Highway to the junction of Highways 78 and 79 in Santa Ysabel, CHP reports.

ACCIDENTS ON MULTIPLE FREEWAYS

December 30, 2012 (San Diego) – Several lanes are blocked by a multi-vehicle accident on westbound I-8, just west of 805. 

In addition, a rollover accident has occurred on northbound 163 on the ramp to eastbound I-8.

A collision has also occurred on I-8 eastbound at East Main Street in El Cajon.

BRIDGE JUMPERS SHUT DOWN MAJOR FREEWAYS

Update: Both 163 and 805 are now reopened, though traffic on 163 remains slow as of 5:55 p.m.

December 28, 2012 (San Diego) -- For the second time today, a suicidal person threatening to jump off a bridge has caused major traffic delays.  Late this afternoon, State Route 163 has been shut down in both directions at the Laurel Street Bridge in Balboa Park.  The I-5 connector to 163 is also closed due to the jumper.

Earlier today, a man threatening to jump off a bridge forced shut-down of I-805 at State Route 54. That individual has been taken into custody and 805 is now reopened.

December 13, 2012 (Bonita) 8:35 a.m. -- Avoid 805 through the Bonita and Southbound areas this morning, where major flooding is reported by CHP and at least two serious accidents have occurred.  At I-805 south in Bonita, a four-vehicle collision has occurred including a semi-truck, CHP report.  At I-805 and Meade, IPN reports an accident involving two school buses with a driver trapped in the engine compartment.

November 25, 2012 (El Cajon ) - A brush fire is burning along Interstate 8 west at East Main Street in El Cajon. The fire is burning uphill in medium fuel.   CHP shut down the freeway briefly but one lane is now reopened.

SERIOUS ACCIDENT BLOCKS HIGHWAY 94 IN LEMON GROVE, MULTIPLE INJURIES

October 13, 2012 (Lemon Grove) – A four-vehicle accident that has injured six patients is blocking lanes on eastbound State Route 94 this evening, IPN reports. A SIG alert has been issued and the highway is shut down at Federal in Lemon Grove.

According to the CHP website, a wrong-way driver was reported at the scene shortly before the crash was reported. Victims include children and elderly; a medical helicopter has been requested.

I-8 EAST CLOSED FOR 2-HOURS FOLLOWING ACCIDENT AT JAPATUL

October 10, 2012 (San Diego’s East County) – Eastbound I-8 will be closed for an investigation until approximately 11:30 a.m., according to the CHP website.

A multi-vehicle accident has occurred involved a semi-truck and an over-turned vehicle in the center lane on I-8 near Japatul/Highway 79.  Fire and medical personnel have been dispatched along with an ASTREA heliciopter; a suspect who fled the scene has been taken into custody by an Immigration and Customs officer.

I-8 SHUT DOWN IN ALPINE TONIGHT

October 8, 2012 (Alpine) – A three-mile stretch of Interstate 8 will be closed tonight for a continuing investigation into a fatal crash on June 11 that killed two people.  All eastbound lanes will be closed between Dunbar Lane/Harbison Canyon Road and Tavern Road from 11 p.m. tonight until 4 a.m. tomorrow, according to the California Highway Patrol.

MAN JUMPS OFF BRIDGE OVER HIGHWAY 52

September 18, 2012 (Santee) --  A man is dead after jumping off a bridge over westbound State Route 52 near Mast Boulevard in Santee, CHP's webpage confirms.  The freeway is closed and the Medical Examiner has been called to the scene.

FLASH FLOOD WARNING ISSUED--AND A FIRE IN POTRERO

August 7, 2012 (San Diego's East County) - The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for the south central portions of San Diego including but not limited to Pine Valley, Descanso and Morena Village.  

In addition, a flash flood watch is in effect for East County's mountains and high desert areas. Hundreds of low water crossings are potentially dangerous in heavy rains, the NWS warns; do not attempt to drive through flooded roads as even a few inches of swiftly moving water can sweep a vehicle away.

MULTI-VEHICLE CRASH ON 125 SOUTH AT HIGHWAY 94

July 22, 2012 (San Diego's East County)--A multi-vehicle crash on Highway 125 south at State Route 94 in the Spring Valley area has resulted in injuries to several people.

"We have transported all patients to hospitals," a Heartland Fire dispatcher told ECM.

OVERTURNED TRASH TRUCK SNARLS TRAFFIC ON HIGHWAY 94 IN LEMON GROVE

 

July 19, 2012 (Lemon Grove) – A SIG ALERT has been issued for eastbound Highway 94, where an overturned trash truck is blocking access to northbound SR-125.

“It was an EDCO trash truck laying on its side with its wheels pointed south,” El Cajon Councilman Gary Kendrick told ECM, who drove past the incident moments ago.

FIRE SHUTS DOWN I-15 AT FRIARS

This fire was held at 10 acres. Firefighters will continue to monitor the area during the night.

June 17, 2012 (San Diego) -- A brush fire is burning along northbound I-15 at Friar's Road, burning in a ravine heading east, on the opposite site of a gas plant nearby. CHP has ordered the freeway shut down for 2-3 hours.  Evacuations have been ordered of homes in the area.

WIND ADVISORY ISSUED FOR EAST COUNTY MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS

 

 

June 4, 2012 (San Diego’s East County)—The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for mountain and desert areas in San Diego and Riverside Counties beginning this afternoon and extended to late Tuseday night.  A low pressure trough is moving inland, bringing southwest to westerly 20-30 mph winds with gusts up to 50 mph locally.

BRUSH FIRE ON HIGHWAY 94

 Update 5:10 p.m. - The forward spread of this fire has been stopped. 

May 25, 2012 (Dulzura) – A brush fire titled the "Pink Fire" is burning in the 17000 block of Highway 94 near Sycamore Canyon in the Dulzura area. 

“It’s burning under power lines,” Battalion Chief Nick Schuler informed ECM.  Currently the fire is approximately three acres in size, burning in a canyon to the east.

FATALITY ACCIDENT IN RAMONA CLOSES HWY 67

Update:  Two people are dead and four injured victims have been transported to local hospitals. A long-term road closure is expected.

May 25, 2012 (Ramona) – A major automobile accident at State Route 67 and Rockhouse Road has claimed the life of one person and others remained trapped, Incident Page Network reports.

The highway is closed between Poway Road and Archie Moore for the investigation and a SIG alert has been issued. A medical helicopter was unable to reach the area due to stormy weather.

2 MOTORCYCLISTS DOWN AT 78 NEAR BANNER GRADE


May 19, 2012 (San Diego’s East County Magazine)—Two motorcyclists are down in the roadway  in a serious injury accident on Highway 78 at Banner Grade in the Julian/Wynola area, Incident Page Network reports.  According to the CHP website, a citizen is attempting CPR on an injured rider while CHP is en route.

The accident is near a twist in the road approximately 1 mile north of a campground at the horse shoe curve.

March 30, 2012-7 p.m. (San Diego's East County) -- Two serious traffic accidents are clogging traffic on local freeways. A motorcyclist is down, blocking lanes on southbound Highway 125 at Navajo. On Interstate 8 eastbound near El Cajon Blvd., a major accident involving four vehicles and a big rig has just occurred, according to the CHP website and Incident Page Network.

BRIDGE JUMPER ON 163

March 19, 2012 (San Diego) 12:18 a.m. –California Highway Patrol reports traffic is at a dead stop on Highway 163 at Robinson and traffic controls are being set up do an attempted suicide by an individual jumping from the bridge.  Incident Page Network reports a man down at 163 Southbound and Park Blvd. in cardiac arrest, possibly after jumping from the bridge.
