EL CAJON RECEIVES $4.8 MILLION TO IMPROVE STREET SAFETY

December 19, 2018 (El Cajon) -- The City of El Cajon has been awarded $4.8 million in grant funding from Caltrans and the Federal Highway Administration. The grants will fund a number of improvements along two busy El Cajon roads—Jamacha Road (which turns into North Second Street) and Madison Avenue. The grant awards aim to improve vehicle and pedestrian safety at these two locations in El Cajon, which has had a high rate of pedestrian injuries and fatalities in recent years.

AVOID I-8 IN EL CAJON DUE TO POWER LINE REPAIRS TODAY

November 25, 2015 (El Cajon)-- This morning at approximately 1:20 a.m., a large cylinder was being towed eastbound I-8 around 2nd St.  The cylinder snagged on a power line causing several power poles to be snapped in half south of I-8.  Sometime this morning, the entire freeway will be shut down in both directions for approximately one hour to remove the old power lines. 

Later on today, the freeway will once again be shut down to install the new lines.  The second closure will be approximately 8 hours later.  Currently, there are several closures in place with alternate routes of travel.

8 POWER POLES COLLAPSE IN EL CAJON: OVERNIGHT ROAD CLOSURE

March 14, 2013 (El Cajon) – Mollison Avenue is closed between Washington and East Main Streets due to eight power poles that toppled over.

“It might be a good 24 hours,” Monica Zech, spokesperson for the City of El Cajon, told ECM late tonight. Earlier an estimated 1500 residences were without power, though all but about 300 have now been restored. 

“Some residents are trapped in parking lots and can’t get out of their homes. Others parked on side streets and went in,” she said, adding that there were no evacuations and El Cajon Police have been escorting pedestrians back into the area.

ACCIDENT SHUTS DOWN LA CRESTA

Update 8:50 p.m. - The eastbound lane is now open.  There is damage to a guardrail, so use caution.

 

March 27, 2011 (El Cajon) 8:10 p.m. -- An accident has shut down La Cresta Blvd. near Mountain View in El Cajon, the main access route into the Crest community.  The road is expected to remain shut for several hours, an area resident has informed ECM.

SINK HOLE CLOSES FANITA IN EL CAJON

 

 

July 21, 2010 (El Cajon) – A cracked storm drain has undermined the roadway on Fanita Drive, causing a sink hole measuring four feet wide and 20 inches deep. Fanita remains closed in both directions between Valley Lake Drive and Gibbons Street for repairs begun yesterday.

I-8 TO CLOSE THURSDAY IN EL CAJON FROM 12:30-4 A.M.

 

January 4, 2009 (El Cajon) – Interstate 8 will be closed in both directions between Second and East Main streets in El Cajon, Monday through Thursday early mornings from 12:30 until 4, according to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). The closures will allow crews to demolish the pedestrian overcrossing at Grape Street.
