Red flag warnings

EXCESSIVE HEAT AND RED FLAG WARNINGS ISSUED

October 22, 2017 (San Diego) - The National Weather Service in San Diego has issued a red flag warning for high fire danger as well as an excessive heat warning. Temperatures on Monday and Tuesday could top 100 degrees in our inland region and may stay above 70 degrees even at night.

January 26, 2013 (San Diego) – Wildfires are not the only hazard we have to concern ourselves with during High Winds and Red Flag Warnings.

Safety Tips:

The safest place to during high winds is indoors.

Watch for flying debris. Tree limbs may break and street signs may become loose during strong wind gusts. Keep an eye toward nearby balconies for loose objects that may fall.

October 8, 2012 (San Diego’s East County) – The National Weather Service (NWS) issues Red Flag Warnings & Fire Weather Watches to alert fire departments and land management agencies about the onset, or possible onset, of critical weather and fuel moisture conditions that could lead to rapid or dramatic increases in wildfire activity. This could be due to low relative humidity, strong winds, dry fuels, or any combination thereof.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CHANGES RED FLAG WARNING CRITERIA

 

April 16, 2010 (San Diego) – Effective immediately, the National Weather Service in San Diego is changing its criteria for issuing red flag warnings for fire danger. The change is expected to result in fewer alerts, also saving taxpayers money on overtime staffing for firefighting forces.
