February 15, 2022 (Lakeside) – Imagine swimming beneath waterfalls alongside fish in a freshwater lake. That dream is all part of the ambitious plans that Lakeside River Park Conservancy has announced for a new park at Channel Road in Lakeside.

February 24, 2019 (Lakeside) – The Lakeside River Park Conservancy will hold a native plant sale on Saturday, April 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (or until supply runs out) at 12108 Industry Road in Lakeside.

July 22, 2017 (Lakeside) – Lakeside’s River Park Conservancy will present its 11th annual Once in a Blue Moon Gala and Auction at the River Valley Equestrian Center on September 16.

You’re invited to help honor partners in conservation and raise funds for science programs for kids. This year’s event includes an exhibition polo match starting at 5 p.m., with the night concluding at 8 p.m.

March 13, 2017 (Lakeside)  - Lakeside's River Park Conservancy will hold the 10th annual San Diego River Run 5k on Saturday, May 6 from  8 a.m. to 11 a.m.at the Lakeside River Park trail.

The San Diego River Run 5k will be held in the morning this year, with on-site registration beginning at 7:00 am and the race starting at 8:00 am. The event will take place at Lakeside's River Park located at 10398 Channel Road, Lakeside.

December 13, 2016 (Lakeside) -- Chris Manzella has been named Lakeside's River Park Conservancy's Volunteer Of The Year. The award given was the "The Joan Burnett Memorial Inspirational Award" named after founding volunteer Joan Burnett, who passed away in 2005.

BRAZEN BURGLARY SUSPECT BUSTED IN LAKESIDE

November 16, 2015 (Lakeside) – On Sunday morning, employees at the Lakeside River Park Conservancy found their office had been broken into. A laptop computer had been stolen, the alarm dismantled, and food from the fridge scattered across tables.

A security camera revealed an image of the intruder eating and tampering with the alarm system The Sheriff’s department sent Deputy Darryl Patmon out to the scene to investigate.

The next morning, at 7:30 a.m, employees again arrived at work and discovered the same man seen in the video standing in the kitchen, drinking tea after sleeping in the office and apparently breaking some items, the River Park’s Facebook page indicates.

December 16, 2014 (San Diego’s East County) - And so goes the chiroptera-phobic Carly Simon song from the 1970s. But all the half-dozen or so children – and about that many adults –who attended “Batty for Bats” at Lakeside River Park Conservancy  know that bats are not even closely related to rats and their ilk. They’re more closely related to … you might want to sit down … well, us!

November 26, 2014 (Lakeside) – Lakeside River Park Conservancy invites you to join in a winter stroll on December 13th from 9 a.m. to 10:30 am.  The free event will take you along a Lakeside promenade through autumn colored leaves of deciduous willow trees.  Pause on a wildlife observation deck to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. Among the many species of birds in this riparian habitat are crested Phainopepla feeding on mistletoe berries high up in sycamore trees.

September 26, 2014 (Lakeside)- Project Wildlife will introduce you to the fascinating and unique world of bats on November 22 from 11 a.m to 12:30 p.m at Lakeside River Park.  You can also meet Animal Ambassador Daisy, a Mexican Free-Tailed Bat in this indoor classroom located on Lakeside's River Park Property.

SAN DIEGO RIVER RUN 5K TAKES OFF MAY 10 IN SANTEE

 

Lakeside's River Park Conservancy's 7th annual San Diego River Run 5k is scheduled to be held on May 10, 2014.  A  morning run will be followed by a day of fun.

This year, organizers are combining efforts with the City of Santee and their annual SanTree Fest. Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy the festivities directly after the race.



Also, new this year will be a beer garden where each participant over the age of 21 (with proof) will receive a wristband that entitles them to one (1) free beer following the race.

LAKESIDE'S RIVER PARK CONSERVANCY TO OPEN UP NEW TRAIL SEGMENT MARCH 8

 

February 1, 2014 (Lakeside)-- Lakeside's River Park Conservancy will open up a new segment of the San Diego River Trail on Saturday, March 8, 2014. The grand opening will be held at Lakeside Baseball Parks, 10030 Marathon Parkway, Lakeside, CA 92040.

This new San Diego River Trail segment is a huge step forward towards the overall goal of a 52-mile trail ranging from Julian down to Dog Beach. The public is invited to a grand opening day with free family-fun activities on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Lakeside Baseball Parks from 9:00am-11:00am.

SAN DIEGO RIVERBED CLEAN-UP JANUARY 16 HONORS MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE

January 13, 2012 (Lakeside) -- Lakeside's River Park Conservancy, along with the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps, is planning a San Diego Riverbed Clean-Up in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service.

This event will take on Monday, January 16 from 9am to noon. The meeting place is at a lot on the corner of Lakeside Avenue and Channel Road in Lakeside.

December 21, 2011 (Lakeside) --  Early in the morning on December 10 at the Lakeside River Park Conservancy, students from El Capitan High School AP Environmental Science Group, Lakeside River Valley High School, and biology students from Cuyamaca Collage joined members from AmeriCorps NCCC  for a Lakeside Community Day event. The day’s goal was to teach students how to construct habitat for small wildlife that lives along this stretch of the San Diego River.

November 4, 2011 (San Diego's East County) -- Lakeside River Park Conservancy will host a Sustainable Homes Tour on Saturday, November 5. The tour includes about 10 sites on tour, including many in East County.
 
 
These homes have a variety of sustainable applications from the construction of the homes, products, landscape and conservation. The variation from new build construction to renovations of older homes provides a broad display of opportunities and ideas for the next home owner touring the sites.

January 26, 2011 (Lakeside)--Recently the Cub Scout pack #3 from Our Lady Of Perpetual Help Catholic School donated 20 bird nesting boxes to the Lakeside River Park Conservancy. The boys had built the boxes at their meetings with the help of their dads. While they were building , the scouts also learned about conservancy and animal habitat.

BLUE MOON EVENT RAISES $12,000 FOR RIVER PARK IN LAKESIDE

September 9, 2010 (Lakeside) -- Lakeside's River Park will be hosting it's 4th annual signature fundraiser, Once in a Blue Moon Dinner & Auction on September 25th, 2010. Cocktails start at 5 p..m, dinner at 7 p.m. RSVPs are required by September 15 for this unique event.

Lakeside's River Trail is used by families, students, walkers and joggers as well as dogs and horses. But on September 25th the trail is transformed into a magical space along the San Diego River.

May 5, 2010 (Lakeside) - Hundreds of runners and walkers will gather this Saturday in Lakeside to celebrate the 3rd Annual Run for the San Diego River 5K Trail Run and Walk. The event starts at 8 a.m. with registration at 6:30 a.m and celebrates local efforts to preserve and restore the biological integrity and beauty of the San Diego River in Lakeside.
