Victim Information and Notification Everyday (V.I.N.E.)

 

July 10, 2009 (San Diego)-- In June of 2009, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department became a participant in the VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday) program. VINE is a free service to the public and provides notification when significant changes occur to an inmate’s custody status. This service has been introduced in San Diego County in part, through a grant from the California State Sheriff’s Association.

BUG BOMBS CAUSE FIRE THAT DESTROYS TRAILER HOME IN EL CAJON

 

July 9, 2009 (El Cajon)--At 5:15 p.m. this evening El Cajon Fire crews responded to reports of a trailer home fire at the Chieftain Trailer Park, located at 187 Ballard, space number 48-B in El Cajon. Upon arrival firefighters found the trailer home engulfed.

MOTORCYCLE IGNITES FIRE IN OTAY MESA

 

July 8, 2009 (Otay)—A motorcycle accident has sparked a vegetation fire on Otay Lakes Road that is currently eight acres, CAL-FIRE informed East County Magazine at 5:43 p.m.

 

“Firefighters do not anticipate the fire getting any larger,” CAL-FIRE Captain Nick Schuler said, adding that no additional resources will be required to extinguish the blaze.

DOIUBLE TRAGEDY IN DELUZ: MAN AND 3-YEAR OLD CHILD DROWN

July 4, 2009 (Deluz) – A three-year-old child airlifted by helicopter last night to Palomar Hospital has died, CAL-FIRE reports today.   The child, a drowning victim, was driven to CAL-FIRE's Deluz station last night, after relatives found the youngster at Tenaja Reservoir in Deluz, not breathing.   Firefighters performed CPR, but were unable to save the youngster.  Engine companies and law enforcement dispatched to the reservoir found a 27-year-old man dead in the water.

FIRE SPARKED BY WEEDING TOOL DOUSED IN EL CAJON; KEEP FIRE EXTINGUISHER HANDY WHEN CLEARING BRUSH, OFFICIALS CAUTION

 

 

July 4, 2009 (El Caj on)--At 11:05 a.m. this morning, El Cajon Fire crews were dispatched to a report of a brush fire near 1103 Gorsline Dr. in El Cajon. When firefighters arrived on scene, they encountered a 3/4-acre brush fire burning uphill threatening residential structures. Approximately ten firefighters on three engines and a Battalion Chief were able to contain the blaze in approximately 30 minutes, but remained on scene for over an hour and a half putting out hot spots.

PICNIC, FIREWORKS & STREET CLOSURES ANNOUNCED IN EL CAJON FOR 4TH

July 4, 2009 (El Cajon)--A dazzling display of fireworks will light the skies over El Cajon this 4th of July thanks to a generous donation by Waste Management in partnership with the City of El Cajon.  Patriotic festivities take place at Kennedy Park,1675 East Madison Avenue, across the street from Granite Hills High School. This daylong event starts with a picnic at noon and ends with  fireworks at 9:00 p.m.

LA MESA KIWANIS AWARDS $5,400 IN COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS TO GRADUATING SENIORS AT GROSSMONT, HELIX, CHAPARRAL

 

Fourteen graduating seniors from East County high schools have been awarded college scholarships totaling $5,400 by the Kiwanis Club of La Mesa and the La Mesa Kiwanis Foundation. Keith Meeker, Tom LeDuc and Dick DeNure headed the scholarship committee that interviewed applicants from Grossmont, Helix and Chaparral High Schools. Those receiving the scholarships were:

JEFF OLSON TO RUN FOR COUNTY TAX ASSESSOR/RECORDER/CLERK

July 3, 2009 (San Diego)—Jeff Olson, who currently serves as Chief of Assessment Services for the County, has announced plans to run for the County Tax Assessor/Recorder/Clerk position in June 2010. If elected he pledges, “I will always be an advocate for the taxpayer and will ensure that no taxpayer is paying more in property tax than they are legally responsible for. Also I will work with our State Legislators to protect Proposition 13 and amend poorly written property tax laws already in place.”
