FREE DOG FOOD FOR BACKCOUNTRY RESIDENTS

March 27, 2020 (Alpine) – Residents of Alpine, Descanso, Pine Valley and backcountry communities in East County can receive free dog food at Natural Instincts Healthy Pet Center in Alpine. 
 
The shop on Alpine Boulevard e-mailed area residents that it has teamed up with PAWS, a San Diego rescue group, to buy discounted dog food to give out for those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

FDA ISSUES WARNING OVER PERFORMANCE DOG RAW FOOD DUE TO SALMONELLA AND LISTERIA: DANGERS TO HUMANS AND PETS

September 30, 2019 (Washington D.C.) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is cautioning pet owners not to feed their pets any Performance Dog frozen raw pet food after a sample tested positive for Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes (L. mono).  Bravo Packing, Inc. Performance Dog products are sold frozen in two-pound plastic pouches.

PIG EAR DOG TREATS SICKEN HUMANS AND PETS, CDC WARNS

July 19, 2019 (Washington D.C.) - At least 93 people have been sickened, including 20 patients hospitalized due to pig ear dog treats contaminated with salmonella. The illness can also sicken pets.

DENTAL DISCOUNTS FOR DOG FOOD DONATIONS TO HELP SENIORS IN LA MESA

March 16, 2017 (La Mesa) – La Mesa Modern Dental Group (5620 Lake Murray Blvd.) is partnering with Animals, a nonprofit that provides animal services for the elderly.  Any patient who brings in a bag of dogfood to donate will receive a 15 percent discount on treatment.

DOGFOOD, CATFOOD RECALLS ON IAMS AND EUKANUBA BRANDS ANNOUNCED BY PROCTER AND GAMBLE

 

August 19, 2013 (San Diego's East County)-- Procter & Gamble Company (P&G) has voluntarily recalled a limited number of dry dog food and cat food lots that may be contaminated with Salmonella.  Brands impacted include Eukanuba and Iams. No Salmonella-related illnesses have been reported to date in association with these product lots.

Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.

November 11, 2010 (San Diego's East County)--'Tis the season for cakes, cookies, pies and a lot of food! The average person gains between 7 - 10 pounds from now until the end of the year. Along with the parties, dinners and social events comes the end of daylight savings time. People tend to get more sedate and eat more. Not a good combination!
