CA ATTORNEY GENERAL BONTA ASKS COURT TO BLOCK INVESTOR PAYOUT WHILE ALBERTSONS-KROGER MERGER IS UNDER REVIEW

Opponents say merger of grocery giants would create monopoly

November 2, 2022 (Sacramento) -- California Attorney General Rob Bonta today joined attorneys general from the District of Columbia and Illinois in asking the D.C. District Court to temporarily block Albertsons' planned $4 billion payment of a special dividend to shareholders on November 7. The action is due to concerns that the payment would dramatically hamper Albertsons' ability to compete, at a time when a proposed merger between Albertsons and Kroger grocery corporations is under scrutiny by federal regulators.

GROCERY WORKERS VOTE OVERWHELMINGLY TO AUTHORIZE STRIKES AT RALPHS, ALBERTSONS, VONS AND PAVILIONS

March 27, 2022 (San Diego) -- United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Locals throughout California, together representing over 47,000 frontline food workers at Ralphs, Albertsons, Vons, and Pavilions, have announced an overwhelming membership vote to authorize union leadership to call for Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) strikes should that become necessary. But it’s not yet inevitable that a strike will occur.

GROCERY WORKERS VOTE TO STRIKE, BUT WALKOUT NOT YET SET

June 26, 2019 (San Diego) – Members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union have voted to authorize a potential strike against Ralphs, Albertsons and Vons grocery stores across Southern California, including San Diego County.

HAGGEN CLOSES ESCROW, MOVES FORWARD ON CONVERSION OF 36 VONS AND ALBERTSONS STORES LOCALLY

March 7, 2015 (San Diego’s East County) – Haggen Pacific Southwest begins its conversion of 36 local Vons and Albertson’s stores countywide.  Haggen, a grocery chain headquartered in Washington state, focuses on healthy, natural and gourmet foods.

The first store making the changeover in San Diego County will be a former Albertsons in Carlsbad set to reopen March 11. Next will be two former Albertson’s stores in El Cajon, at 1608 Broadway and 13439 La Canada.

GROCERY WORKERS VOTE TO STRIKE: PICKETING LOCAL SUPERMARKETS COULD BEGIN THIS WEEK

August 21, 2011 (San Diego) – A grocery workers’ strike at Vons, Albertsons and Ralphs supermarkets could begin as early as this week. Union members voted overwhelmingly on Saturday to authorize leaders to call a strike, with 90% voting in favor.

SANTA’S COMING TO ALPINE: AND SO IS A BLACKHAWK HELICOPTER


December 15, 2010 (Alpine) – Giving the reindeer a rest, Santa is bringing a helicopter to the Albertson’s store, 2955 Alpine Blvd. in Alpine.

 

Free Santa photos with your children and pets will be provided.  Free popcorn, candy, hot chocolate and hot cider will all be part of the festivities this Saturday, December 18 from 1-6 p.m.
