SIMPLE WISDOM --” Is Your Past Interfering with Your Future?

By Penelope Andrade

January, 2009 (San Diego) — Is your past getting in the way of your future? Like
most of us you've probably based your notions of the future on what has happened
to you in the past. That's human nature. Your subconscious mind is designed
to operate that way. That's how you learned to avoid hot stoves or angry dogs
even if you weren't aware that's what you were learning. However, if
you want to transform your life now, you'll need to open up to a future free
of the past. Fortunately, as an evolving human, you have tools for this. You
have a potential for consciousness bigger than any sub or unconscious programming.
You also have the will to move your awareness wherever you choose--as long
as you practice!

OBÃMANOS! TRAVELS THROUGH AZTLAN WITH RITA AND RICHARD

Obamanos
Richard and Rita with Enrique Morones at a joint Latino
African American press conference on the day they left for the battleground
states. Enrique is the director of Border Angeles, an immigrant rights

Kensington residents Richard Griswold and Rita Sanchez are among thousands
of ordinary - or should we say extraordinary - citizens who felt inspired to pull
up stakes and travel to distant states campaigning for Barack Obama.
What’s it like to hit the road and talk to strangers all over the U.S. on behalf
of a presidential candidate? Below is Griswold’s chronicle of this remarkable
saga detailing the memorable places and colorful characters that he and Sanchez
encountered in their journey through the heart of America.

2 BILLS TO STOP PAY DISCRIMINATION AGAINST WOMEN PASS HOUSE; DAVIS & FILNER VOTE "YES"; BILBRAY, HUNTER & ISSA VOTE "NO"

January 11, 2009 (San Diego) — Two landmark bills aimed at helping women employees achieve equal pay for equal work and obtain judgments against employers who violate the law have passed the House of Representatives and will now go to the Senate. San Diego County's Congressional delegation split down party lines, with Democrats Susan Davis and Bob Filner voting yes, while Republicans Brian Bilbray, Duncan D. Hunter and Darrell Issa voted no on both bills.

The bills were introduced in response to a U.S. Supreme Court ruling against Lilly Ledbetter (see photo), who worked nearly 20 years at a Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company plant in Alabama. Ledbetter filed a lawsuit claiming discrimination immediately after she found out that she was the lowest paid supervisor at the plant, even though she had more experience than her male colleagues. A jury ruled in favor of Ledbetter.

By Miriam Raftery

January 15, 2009 — January is the season for two kinds of yard lines—those scrutinized by SuperBowl fans and those frequented by bargain hunters at yard sales.  Lots of people are clearing out clutter (not to mention unwanted gifts) after the holidays—and in this bleak economy, more and more people are selling off valuable items in an effort to bring in a little extra cash.

BLEU BOHÈME, A PLACE TO SHARE WITH A FAVORITE FRIEND –TRES BIÉN!

www.blueboheme.com

January 10, 2009 (Kensington) — Is there life east of I-15? Oui, and great food too. I've shown you world-class Mexican food, neighborhood sushi, continental cuisine in Alpine. Now the crème-de-la-creme: fabulous French food in an unpretentious casual restaurant called Bleu Bohème!

The atmosphere transports you to a long-ago French countryside. The feeling is like being in an ancient limestone and wood-beamed roadhouse filled with great food and grog for the long distance traveler. The banquet room conjures images of wine and revelry. At least that's my take on the place. I kept expecting a huge roasted pig with an apple in its mouth served on a platter. But then I have a vivid imagination.

EDITORIAL - WHO DESERVES AN ORGAN TRANSPLANT-AND WHO SHOULD DECIDE?

Questions Regarding the Tragic Death of Nataline Sarkisyan

By Joel A. Harrison, PhD, MPH

January
6, 2008 —
Few people who read about the Nataline Sarkisyan
case last year could have avoided being touched by her tragic death. Recently
her family filed a lawsuit against her insurer, Cigna and is trying to get
criminal charges brought against them as well for refusing to cover a
liver transplant for Nataline, a young leukemia patient. Unfortunately, I
believe media coverage of the story left out a number of crucial points/questions.
