July 29,2016 (San Diego) — San Diego Police Department has released the identities of two police officers shot last night.  The identities of a suspect arrested for the crimes and a second man now in custody, possibly linked to the shootings, have also been made public.

July 29, 2016 (San Diego)—A San Diego Police officer is dead and a second officer seriously wounded in a shooting that occurred during a traffic stop shortly before 11 p.m. last night in the 3800 block of Boston Avenue, SDPD Chief Shelley Zimmerman confirms. Both officers suffered multiple gunshot wounds in their upper bodies.

DESCANSO SHOOTING VICTIM UNDERGOES SURGERY

July 28, 2016 (Descanso) – Sheriff’s deputies from the Pine Valley and Alpine stations responded to a report of a man shot in Descanso last night at 6:30 p.m. Arriving at 6535 Japatul Highlands Road, deputies found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds.

July 26, 2016 (La Mesa) — More than three years after 22-year-old Xusha Brown Jr. was murdered in a drive-by shooting on Interstate 8 in La Mesa, three men have been charged with murder, conspiracy and gang-related charges.

July 24, 2016 (San Diego) -- More than half (56 percent) of at-risk youth in the San Diego region reported marijuana was the first illicit substance they ever used, up from 34 percent in 2007, and they reported marijuana was even easier to obtain than tobacco, according to data compiled by the SANDAG Substance Abuse Monitoring (SAM) Program.

July 24, 2016 (San Diego) - Eric S. Birnbaum, Special Agent In Charge, San Diego FBI Field Office, is releasing bank robbery statistics for the first six months of 2016.  The San Diego FBI Field Office investigates bank robberies occurring in San Diego and Imperial County.  

For the first six months of 2016 (January 1, 2016 – June 30, 2016), there were a total of 25 bank robberies, compared to 18 for this same time period in 2015 (28% increase).  There was a total of 48 bank robberies for calendar year 2015.  Calendar year 2014 totaled 101 bank robberies with 49 occurring in the first six months (January 1, 2014 – June 30, 2014). 

The following is a breakdown of bank robberies by location for January 1, 2016 – June 30, 2016.

VEHICLE SHOOTING IN RANCHO SAN DIEGO

July 24, 2016 (El Cajon) - On July 21, 2016 around 2:20 a.m., California Highway Patrol transferred a 911 call reporting a road rage incident that occurred near the intersection of Jamacha Road and Hilton Head Place involving multiple gunshots fired.  Sheriff's Deputies responded to the area and located the victim. Varying witness accounts described the suspect vehicle as either a white SUV and/or a black sedan.    A white SUV matching the description of a vehicle involved was located at an apartment complex nearby.  Four individuals associated with the vehicle were questioned but released pending further investigation.  Several bullet casings were found in the apartment complex parking lot about two blocks away from where the white SUV was located.  There were no injuries reported in this incident and the investigation is continuing.

ASSAULT IN RAMONA CAPTURED ON CELLPHONE

July 11, 2016 (Ramona) – Alexander Stone provided the Sheriff's Department with a cellphone video capturing an assault with a deadly weapon which occurred yesterday on Rangeland Road in Ramona.  In the video the suspect, who was later identified as Mark Wayne Gordon of Ramona, can be seen intentionally driving his vehicle twice at Stone, who was able to jump out of the way to avoid being struck.  Gordon eventually exited his vehicle and physically assaulted Stone and an acquaintance.  During the assault, Gordon knocked Stone's cellphone from his hand, causing damage to the phone.  No injuries were sustained by anyone involved and all parties left the scene.

GIRL, 8, FIGHTS OFF INTRUDER IN EL CAJON HOME

July 10, 2016 (El Cajon) – El Cajon Police are warning residents about an intruder who pried a screen off an open downstairs window at a condo in the1300 block of Hawk Lane at 4:00 this morning. He climbed into a bedroom where an 8-year-old girl and her 6-year-old brother were sleeping. 

The girl's mother told Fox News that the suspect grabbed her daughter and was dragging her downstairs, when the girl struck him in the neck using moves she learned in a martial arts class.

The action caused the suspect to flee the home, said Lieutenant Rob Ransweiler. The suspect is described as a man with tanned skin, dark “fluffy” hair and a thin build.  He had a strong “dirty” odor and wore dark clothing and a backpack.

SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOR AT SDSU

June 27, 2016 (San Diego) - On Sunday at around 2:15 p.m., a male suspect made unwanted physical contact with a female San Diego State student at a location near campus. The suspect was located shortly after and arrested. Several other female SDSU students reported the same male had attempted to engage them in similar contacts.

Since his arrest, the suspect has been released from custody and has been seen in the SDSU area.  He was wearing a dark baseball hat, long sleeve orange shirt, and gray Dickies pants.

SUPREME COURT: DOMESTIC ABUSERS CAN BE BARRED FOR LIFE FROM OWNING GUNS

June 21, 2016 (La Mesa) – Freeway memorial signs commemorating murder victim and Sycuan tribal member Xusha Brown Jr. were unveiled today at the La Mesa Police Department.  Brown was shot and killed while in a vehicle on Interstate 8 in La Mesa in the early morning on May 5, 2013.  The driver of the Nissan Maxima, Malcolm Hune, was also injured.

June 12, 2016 (San Diego's East County) - The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration has released a Roll Call video to all law enforcement nationwide about the dangers of improperly handling fentanyl and its deadly consequences.  Acting Deputy Administrator Jack Riley and two local police detectives from New Jersey appear on the video to urge any law enforcement personnel who come in contact with fentanyl or fentanyl compounds to take the drugs directly to a lab.
