JACUMBA SCHOOL AWARDED $5,000 GRANT FROM SDG&E

 

January 24, 2013 (Jacumba)--Jacumba Middle School, received an unexpected holiday grant from San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) to help fund experiential learning tied to STEM (an acronym for studies in the area of science, technology, engineering and mathematics).  STEM related programs have become a Presidential priority because too few students are pursuing degrees in these fields.

LT. GOV. CALLS UPON U.S. ATTORNEY GENERAL HOLDER TO REVIEW THREATS OF RETALIATORY ACTIONS BY MORTGAGE INDUSTRY

September 13, 2012 (Sacramento)-- Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom called upon Attorney General Eric Holder and members of the Antitrust Division at the Office of the Attorney General to review the actions of some members of the mortgage industry, as well as federal agencies, who have coercively urged local governments to reject consideration of any proposal that would exercise the powers constitutionally granted local governments to use eminent domain to help stem the mortgage crisis.

LATINO LEADERS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS RALLY FOR SOLIDARITY IN DISTRICT 9: EMERALD URGES GREATER CIVIC PARTICIPATION

 
April 15, 2012 (San Diego) – In a show of support for Councilmember Marti Emerald’s reelection, more than 60 Latino leaders and community members attended a rally yesterday in City Heights.
 
“I am extremely grateful for the support of the people from so many diverse neighborhoods and communities in District 9,” Emerald said. “I believe it is critical that all communities are empowered and have a voice.” Emerald said that voting is an important way to empower District 9 residents. “If you want to be heard, you must vote,” she added.

CAL FIRE SUBMITS PROPOSAL TO TAKEOVER FIRE SERVICES FOR SAN MIGUEL FIRE DISTRICT

 
March 26, 2012 (Spring Valley) –Cal Fire has submitted a request for proposal (RFP)to San Miguel Fire Protection District, the only agency to do so by yesterday’s deadline.
 
A committee appointed by the District will begin reviewing the proposal March 26 to assure that it meets minimum standards, or metrics, previously determined. The review committee will present its findings to the San Miguel Fire District Board at a March 28 meeting.

Westfield Parkway to make donation to local school; shoppers can join Westfield Parkway in giving back by donating clothes, school supplies, and funds to schools and Boys & Girls Clubs of East County

August 12, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – Westfield shopping centers and the Westfield Family program announced  the start of the “Give Back to School” Program.  Westfield will donate $57,500 to the program, including $2,500 to one school in the Westfield Parkway area.  The funds will be used to support such school programs as arts and music, sciences, physical education, libraries and technology resources.
