TRUCK CRASH ON 125 KILLED MOTHER-DAUGHTER FROM RAMONA AND INJURED IRAQI IMMGRANT FAMILY FROM SANTEE

August 3, 2017 (San Diego’s East County) – The two people killed yesterday after a big-rig lost control on State Route 125 were a mother and daughter from Ramona:  Nancy Jeanette Bauerlein, 57,  and Jennifer Campbell, 29. Campbell leaves behind a husband and two children.  Bauerlein had a husband, five children and 10 grandchildren.

The crash has also left 6-year-old Kristina Andarus of Santee with severe spinal injuries.  She has undergone surgery but may be left paralyzed, her mother told 10 News. Her mother, Aneta Andarus, an Iraqi immigrant and owner of Threading by Aneta in Clairemont, has asked for prayers.

Kristina's 4-year-old sister, shown in media coverage being carried from the wreckage by a Heartland firefighter, had no or only minor injuries Her mother, Aneta,who was driving,  had lacerations to her hand, Her grandmother, a front passenger suffered a broken leg. Officer Benjamin Demarest with the California Highway Patrol told ECM. 

The CHP has not released the names of any parties involved. However the Medical Examiner released the identity of Nancy Bauerlein. The remaining victims were identified by family members in interviews with other media outlets.

The big-rig truck, a Freightliner from Georgia, was traveling northbound on State Route 125 yesterday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. when the driver lost control and the truck crashed through a guardrail ,careened into the southbound lanes and through a cement barricade, struck multiple vehicles and came to rest jackknifed across lanes of traffif on the northbound side.

The truck slammed into Bauerlein’s Chevy Astro car; both vehicles then  hit the Kia Sorrento driven by Jeanette Bauerlein.  Both Ramona victims died at the scene. Their son and brother, Timothy Thompson, told NBC 7 his mother and sister worked at the Fleet Readiness Center Southwest on Naval Air Station North Island. He said both women “will be extremely missed” by their family and friends

A passenger was also in the truck at the time of the deadly collision. The trucker and passenger had minor to moderate injuries.

The driver of the Freightliner truck from Georgia is not believed to have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol.  However the investigation is continuing and could take several weeks or more, according to the California Highway Patrol.
