April 24, 2017 (San Diego) – Two hikers were rescued over the weekend off Cowles Mountain.

A 69-year-old woman suffered heat exhaustion and was airlifted off the trail on Saturday afternoon.  Then on Sunday, a second airlift was done to rescue a 25-year-old hiker who suffered an injury.  She was taken by ambulance to a hospital for non-emergency treatment, according to San Diego-Rescue Service.

The Sheriff’s Search and Rescue service has also been kept busy this spring, making multiple rescues off trails in Cleveland National Forest including in the Three Sisters Falls area.

These incidents serve as reminders of the importance of following trail safety tips.  Wear sturdy hiking shoes, carry an abundance of water, and be sure your cell phone is fully charged before you hit the trail.

A permit is required for hiking in Cleveland National Forest, so you should register with the Forest Service before your outing.  It’s always wise to make sure someone knows where you are going when you head out for a hike, and when you’re expected back.
