May 20, 2016 (San Diego) - The hated Dodgers came to Petco tonight to start a three-game weekend series against the Padres.  Scott Kazmir started on the hill for Los Angeles and Christian Friedrich for San Diego.  This would've been an awkward matchup if Kazmir was still in his glory days with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Friedrich did the unthinkable in the second and singled, bringing home two to give the Padres a 2-0 lead.

But the Dodgers came right back in the fourth with Yasmani Grandal’s double scoring Yasiel Puig to tie the game at two.

In the fifth, Puig struck again with a two-run blast to put the Dodgers ahead 4-2.

The Padres got one back in their half of the fifth with a Derek Norris solo homer and the score was 4-3.

In the sixth, the Padres finally took control.  Christian Bethancourt hit a two run homer for the Padres to take a 5-4 lead.

The Padres thought they had this game in the bag.  But in typical Padres fashion, they didn’t.  Justin Turner hit a two-run homer in the eighth to give the Dodgers a 6-5 lead, which they would carry till the end to take game one.

Think it’s the same old Padres?  Not so fast.  In the bottom of the ninth, the bottom of the ninth, mind you, Melvin Upton Jr. solidified hero status with a two-run walk-off home run and the Padres won.  7-6 is your final score.  I’m still speechless.  Game two is tomorrow at 7:10 p.m.
