Festivities and Thank You Lunch Follow Trail Projects at Los Peñasquitos June 4

May 24, 2011 (Los Penasquitos) -- The San Diego County Department of Parks and Recreation invites the public to celebrate National Trails Day on June 4 at Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve by pitching in on morning trail improvements, then enjoying lunch and live entertainment.

“This is a great opportunity to get outside and give back to the community by helping to preserve the natural resources that make this park so special,” said Brian Albright, County Parks and Recreation Director.

All ages are welcome…and there are a variety of projects for everyone, from heavy-duty trail work for the strong to woodchip-scattering for little kids to planting trees and native plants. Volunteers will be able to choose projects that suit their interests and abilities and work in groups of adults, children or families.

The event is sponsored by REI, and participants will receive giveaways and lunch. They can also enjoy nature hikes, tours of the historic Adobe Ranch House, exhibits and live music by the family-friendly banjo-driven-duo Trails & Rails.

The National Trails Day celebration is from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Parking and admission are free at Rancho Penasquitos Adobe, located at 12122 Canyonside Park Drive. For more information about the event and other activities at County parks, please visit www.sdparks.org or call 858-484-7504.
