May 11, 2016 (Chicago) - The Pads and Cubs woke up bright and early to play game one of today’s doubleheader.  Colin Rea took the mound for San Diego and Kyle Hendricks for the Cubs.

This time, the Padres took charge first.  Travis Jankowski scored on an error in the first to give the Friars a 1-0 lead.  Matt Kemp singled and scored Wil Myers and the Padres jumped up 2-0.

But that was no great feat for the Cubs to overcome.  Anthony Rizzo singled in the first and drove in Ben Zobrist and the Pads’ lead was cut to one at 2-1.

In the second, Zobrist singled and Addison Russell scored and the Cubs tied the game at two.

In the fourth, Russell doubled on a sharp liner to right that drove in Javier Baez, who was hit by a pitch and the Cubs took a 3-2 lead.  Tim Federowicz hit another RBI double to score Russell and the Cubbies went up 4-2.

Three innings went by, then in the seventh, Myers reached first base on a throwing error by the Cubs, driving in Jankowski and just like last night, the score was 4-3 in the late stages of the game.  This time, the Padres did something about it.  Brett Wallace jacked a three-run homer to left center to put the Padres ahead by two again at 6-4.

In the eighth, Kemp hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Adam Rosales and make the score 7-4 Friars.

The Padres take game two 7-4 against a red-hot Cubs team.  Game three will be played later tonight at 5:05 p.m.
