Proofreader of The Color Purple, President Herbert Hoover's WWII memoir and more to lead workshop

April 7, 2012 (La Mesa) -- Sprinkled with stories and tips (e.g., how to find literary agents), this lecture-workshop is designed to empower and inspire writers. Take a peek at the book business, check out the pros and cons of traditional vs. electronic and self-publishing, then chat about genres such as memoir and children’s literature, and close with some ideas to help writers get published and sell their work.

Other highlights include writing exercises, an “Editor’s Tips on Craft” segment, and Q&A.

Presenter Laurie Gibson is the editor/proofreader who has worked with more than 100 first-time authors during her 15-year career. The award-winning novel "The Color Purple," the WWII memoir of President Herbert Hoover, and several titles by bestselling business author Brian Tracy are examples of her work for publishers.

The event is slated for Thursday, April 12, 6:30–7:30 p.m. at Marcella June's Coffee Lounge (8513 La Mesa Blvd., La Mesa). Cost is $10. No pre-registration needed.
