October 21, 2008 (San Diego’s East County) -  This weekend’s hot events include Borrego Days Desert Festival, California Friendly Garden Festival, Pine Valley Pet Parade, Bates Nut Farm Costume Contest, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory performances, 2008 Fall Kitchen Tour, and a Sky Show following the Aztec football game.

Borrego Springs hosts its three-day Borrego Days Desert Festival this weekend.  Events include the Hole-in-the-Wall Cowboy Camp, a Trailblazin’ Roundup Reception, live music by Nitro Express, KidZone, arts and crafts fair, beer garden, Day of the Dead art show, winetasting benefit event, paleontology displays, pancake breakfast, Miss Borrego pageant, festival parade and much more.

With water rationing looming on the horizon, as Mayor Sanders and our water districts are warning, you may want to visit the free California Friendly Gardening Festival at the Water Conservation Garden at Cuyamaca College, El Cajon.   Learn how to grow more with less water, buy beautiful and water-wise plants, hear lectures or ask for tips from landscaping experts, and savor tastes of local foods.  This event also includes live musical entertainment and a children’s booth, where youngsters can meet Dr. Wilderness or enjoy a scavenger hunt, pumpkin walk, seed planting and fall crafts.  Enter a drawing to win $600 in custom landscaping for your yard!
