September 1, 2023 (Lakeside) - For week three, ECM Sports headed out to Lakeside, where the Vaqueros of El Capitan host the Vikings of La Jolla for their last non-conference matchup on Military Night at El Cap.  The black and gold are off to a hot start in 2023 with a 2-0 record.

The Vikings marched downfield quickly and early and senior quarterback Carson Diehl passed nicely and eventually tossed one for the score.  Diehl broke free from midfield for his first rushing touchdown of the game and La Jolla led 14-0 after one.

Diehl wasted no time, opening the second quarter with a cross pattern pass to junior wideout Hank Hansen for another score.  Things looked grim for the Vaqueros until senior safety Ryder Lynn seized a pass from Diehl in midair and returned it for a pick six to put El Cap on the board.  La Jolla added a field goal at the end of the half, but El Cap stayed behind when junior quarterback Brandt Barker handed it off for the rushing touchdown and the Vikings led 24-14 at the half.

After a scoreless third, the Vaqueros came to life in the fourth.  They got to within three when Barker aired it out for the long touchdown reception and then, senior runningback Julian May punched it in with two and a half minutes left in the game and El Cap stays undefeated with an epic Cinderella story comeback in the fourth quarter, winning 27-24.
